Plenty of characters in different mangas go through similar changed dbz [piccolo, tien, vegeta] yuy yh hakusho[hiei] fma [scar] inuyasha [sesshomaru] yu gi oh [kaiba], and plenty more. So how is sasuke' s change an asspull?

Because non-Avenger Sasuke isn't emo, and a non-emo Sasuke isn't Sasuke at all.

It's a sudden change, and there were minimal hints at what Sasuke was ever thinking prior to 698.

Sasuke hardly ever shows what he is thinking. Thats why he is my favorite character. In dbz vegeta didn't become good untill the very end.

i don't recall any of those guys randomly deciding they cared enough about others to have friends near the end of the story.

it's a bad comparison because Vegeta steadily changed to where it couldn't be construed as random. Sasuke was condescending and abusive towards others the whole way through until the very end of his 2nd fight with Naruto. There was absolutely nothing mysterious about Sasuke's thoughts.

Agree. I like that about his character, but I do believe it contributes to some people hanging on to "avenger Sasuke." They perceive it as an a**pull, instead of being the result of years of conflicting feelings coming to resolution with the path he originally walked.

It was not an asspull. It was gonna happen eventually, it was Naruto's goal to change Sasuke and we knew he would be able to do it soon enough. Sasuke finally accepted Naruto and his hate was turned into love, like Hagoromo always wanted to happen.

It's not necessarily that people weren't expecting the change. This change for Sasuke was Naruto's goal since the end of part one. We all knew it was going to happen.

People just don't like the way Sasuke abruptly changed his mind due to having a tie with Naruto. I really don't think it made much sense either. Naruto was willing to lose his life on multiple occasions for him and Sasuke didn't change his mind then. What made this time different? Nothing made it different. Revolution Sasuke and that speech of his were just added into the story to give fans a NaruSasu fight. Then, he went back on his resolve since that's what the story needed.

I don't like this writing. I'm glad that Naruto and Sasuke are happy... but I just feel that it could have been executed in a slightly more believable manner.

Then again, this criticism of mine should be taken with a grain of salt since I'm not a mangaka who's sold millions of copies of their work. Lol

Actually it kinda makes sense that he became good again because he was never truly evil anyways just conflicted and naruto helped him overcome his darkness besides he doesn't seem like he's a do gooder at the end he still has that attitude that he usually has that sort of calm and aloof attitude and being cold when needed.

Even when he was planning to destroy the leaf he thought of his comrades and team 7. I mean isn't the curse of hatred like a mental disease. Tobirama explained how the uchiha are so they may be to blame for their actions but tbh they just need asylums/blunts/hugs/medicine.

Sasukes moment of self reflection and rebirth was great and I expected something like that given what the story's been about.

People claiming it to be an asspull have never heard of character development and haven't paid attention to the story.

Agreed. To add I do feel Edo Itachi's final words should have been the turning point for sasuke's character. But he went back and forth on himself. Even "revolution" sasuke would have been a more fitting closure for his character. It's difficult to comprehend his complete U turn right at the very end.
