Some important things to note

- Oda doesn't listen to his female population.

- Oda doesn't care about what you think about his pacing.

- Oda also said Luffy, Zoro and Nami are the foundation of One Piece.

- Oda was going to finish ONE PIECE within 5 years

- The story's end hasn't changed once since the beginning

- Oda is going to cut "Generic Fodder" storylines so he can can hurry his story.

- Oda much rather draw SH's relaxing than fights

- Oda finds it annoying when characters are deemed "weak"

- Oda write ONE PIECE as dramatically as he can. He thinks if he had written a pure battle manga, it would have been easily defeated by Dragon Ball

- Oda doesn't kill any characters because he wishes the readers to feel satisfied after an arc ended

- Oda hates the revival of dead in manga.

OT: I like the way he is heading. Though, I don't agree about the "killing characters off" part. Character deaths can enhance the plot in many ways. People can be satisfy with deaths, especially emotional ones.

Well, Sandman translated it as this:

"If I was influenced by the opinion of female/girl readers, it would ruin my identity as a shonen mangaka." SWITCH (2009)

Doesn't mean that he outright reject them or doesn't care. Oda knows the trait of female readers' opinions tend to be, which probably unsuited with shonen genre, hence his statement. If anything, he accepts a lot of suggestions from female readers' letters in SBS, especially concerning the characters' birthdates and all.
