How does that make sense? What about the zetsu and yamato they all shorten their life span as well?

I think it only applies to Hashirama. His wood release is complete. Hashirama adds his lifeforce to his technique to give it life which counters bijuus. It makes sense for him to have overwhelming power at the cost of his life.

Hashirama isn't the only one who can make living trees with wood release yamato can do it too[

It isn't fair for hashirama to shorten his life span when using his powerful techniques when those with equally powerful or even more powerful abilities suffer no such drawbacks
