If u guys didnt know, way back then, Kakashi was the most popular character in all of Naruto (then it was Sasuke afterwards)


He was so popular among the readers at a wide margin compared to Naruto that they felt that he should have been the true main character of the series


Kishi and his editors were apparently angry and choose to reduce Kakashi's panel time in favor of increasing Naruto's panel time and force feeding him to us.


Kishi's editors wanted the spotlight on Naruto for the end of Part One and most of Part two



This notion of reducing Kakashi's panel may tie in to why Kakashi didnt appear that much at the end of Part One and even in those anime fillers - (All Naruto Involved)


This is also could be related to why the characters Yamato and Sai were created because they were essentially replacements of Kakshi and Sasuke, two of the most popular characters respectively


Furthermore, the Hidan and Kakuza arc, which Kakashi was one of the main characters had the spotlight put heavily on was taken away and shifted to the interference of Naruto at the end.




On the other hand Sasuke, well... we all know what happened to his panel time in Part Two

You're right
I just looked up the popularity polls and kakashi seems to pretty popular but he's not too much more popular than naruto and sasuke
They seem to switch places in the top 3 often
