It was a direct hit from the sword. A slash is independent of the sword and travels externally.

You mean the shock wave, yes? Well the shock wave is generated from the movement of the sword just because the sword was blocked doesn't mean a shock wave was not generated the thing is the tail was strong enough to absorb the force of the shock wave.

And also shock waves are never as strong as the force which created the shock waves in the first place since they were created as a result of the initial force. To put it simply, the slash from the PS blade itself is stronger than the resultant shock wave caused as a result of the slash.

When was it shown that the shock wave was made of chakra? I believed it was simply rapid air movement created from the fast, high energy swing of the PS blade.

Yata mirror only shields a part of the Susanoo, particle style > Susanoo. Saying Yata mirror is the strongest is like telling me Itachi can tank a goududama. Telling me he can survive juubi powered Indra arrow is like saying he has the sage's power which he doesn't. And even if Yata is so strong, Itachi won't hold it out for long, whats the point of a shield if you cant maintain it against high stamina opponents with speed blitz So no, Madara > Itachi.

If I'm not mistaken, yata reflects elemental damage back and ultimately negates the attack.

But from my experience, a great offense. While it may go in vain towards perfect defense it will damage something else.
While the defense, can never cause harm to any.
