Oh, no way that Rob is better than Jason. I mean, I don't play guitar so I can't tell is there some kind of difference speaking of technicalities, but Jason plays with emotions which I never heard in Rob's playing. But, again that's only my opinion.

John was a better complete package but Rob is the better bass player.
So personally Rob is better for me, but yes I agree Newsted has amazing vocals, so they were hit on backing vocal front. Anyways this debate can continue on and on. And Cliff was one of the best bassist ever.
Speaking of bass:-
Rob has more range than Jason he besides playing metal and it' subgenres is also well versed in Funk metal, his performances for suicidal tendencies were simply mind blowing, he has a style more similar to Burton, with him they have returned to their older style. In albums Master of puppets, Metallica and Death magnetic, Metallica has a different style(even though it was very popular which is a testament to Newsted skill) but with Death magnetic they have returned to their older style.
