Yeah, and out of all the characters if he had to date one, it'd be Shikamaru. It goes past the line of favoritism. :|

The fact isn't put on quotes don't means that Kishimoto didn't say it. The entire conversation wasn't transcript, and the writer gave context to the quotes of Kishimoto.
That happens often when isn't a full-fledged interview, but just a little segment of the paper or site.
