In the American 2010 "Good Guys" poll, Hinata finished in third place with 11% of the votes nearly tying for second with Shikamaru's 12%.
In the newest popularity poll, Hinata ended in 10th place with 2517 votes and once again she nearly tied with Shikamaru for 9th place and making Hinata the most popular female character in the series.

Despite not being the main heroine of the series, Kishimoto stated that, at the time of the
2010 Jump Festa interview, Hinata would make a better heroine than Sakura.
This is further extended in an omake in episode 165 where Sakura accuses Hinata of trying to become the main heroine of the series because of her massive popularity, much to her confusion.

Sasuke is at the very least as popular as Naruto and is again,at the very least as important as him.Most of the story is revolved around him,one of Naruto's main goal is about him,and he chased after him for years,and the last few chapters were heavily focused on Sasuke like 698,and the end of part 2,chapter 699 rather than on out main character Naruto.

Yet you try to downplay him by pointing out non canon movies,and a non canon manga not even written by Masashi.

This movie was promoted 3-4 months as a canon movie which takes place after the events of the manga when the manga ends.New designs for Naruto,Sasuke,and Kakashi was released with everyone thinking they would all play a big part whereas the other characters got small pencil sketches.Then a month ago chapter 700 came out and everything became about the pairing,in the trailers,interviews etc.

They even over hyped the other characters in the trailers to make the movie more appealing.If Hinata was the one who brought everyone one in then how come we barely saw anything of her until chapter 700 came out?

Hinata's probably the 8th-10th most popular character by now. Not 1st like Naruto.
