gracefully walks towards the meeting area where she was to meet her newest student, a male who seemed to be new to the system. She stood in front of him, analyzing his body structure and his oddly innocent expression. Without uttering a single word, she motions her hand as if she was telling Sanya to follow her and quickly scurries off into the wilderness. A little further and a little deeper into the woods, a new environment was hidden. One where large rocks and mountains towered the rocky landscape. Jumping with a chakra enhanced jump, Nico Robin reaches the top of a fairly-large boulder and assumed a meditative state. "I assume this is your first training session on the earth element. Anyways, we shall proceed right away. Before starting with the real training, i'd like to go through various exercises that will help your overall career as a shinobi. Anyways, I want you to answer these questions." She slipped into her ninja pouch, taking out a single scroll, and tosses it to the student. "They are not all about the earth element, but each and everyone of them is useful to know. She looked over his expression and stature, not even introducing herself, and physically exclaimed that he should followed her. He looked over it, surprised at it's simplicity, then began to write on it using a pencil from his pouch.

"You could have done better... but I'll explain. Your first answer is correct - I s'ppose any answer is correct, it depends on your perspective and how you see ninjas. Some see them as tools, while others see them as vital pieces of a village. Number two is lacking. Chakra is actually the mixture of both physical and spiritual energies and combining them to create, well, chakra. Physical is gathered through the energy from your cells and whatnot, and spiritual is more based on the energy of the mind and spirit. Chakra is used with nature transformation and shape manipulation, which is the basis of almost every techniques. Ninjutsu, well, they are, as the name suggests, ninja techniques. Techniques usable by shinobi, which generally requires chakra but not all do. And Taijutsu, I believe you mean Kenjutsu rather than Kinjutsu... Genjutsu is basically correct; you create illusions by taking control of the enemy's brain through chakra and have them see, feel, etc, whatever you choose with the chakra. Dispelling it is used through Kai, Full body surges, physical pain, or other unique means like Sharingan's ability to pierce through visual illusions." - A ninja is any person or animal that utilizes any of the 3 types of jutsu in order to preform various tasks. These tasks can be carried out for their own purposes, or for a superior. In that case, the superior is usually a Kage, someone who rules over a specific village within one of the 5 lands. In other cases, it could easily be a crime boss or some sort of organization leader. A ninja is driven by their own ambitions and ideals.
- Chakra is the natural energy that flows through the body. It is a combination of two types of energies. The first energy is Physical, which comes from the organelle of the body, and spiritual energy, which comes from the mind. By molding these two energies, you create chakra, which is run through the Chakra Pathway System. Generally, physical and spiritual energies are contained within everyone, however, people who combine and tap into such energies are the ones who gain chakra. In that case, Shinobi are the ones with chakra.
- The three basic ninja skills are derived from the 3 types of energies. Taijutsu is a skill that involves the physical application of the body, mainly in the form of hand-to-hand combat and usage of direct limb contact, and is derived more from physical energy. Genjutsu is a skill that involves the creation of illusions by tapping into the chakra in the mind, and is derived more from spiritual energy. Ninjutsu is a combination of both energies that involves utilizing chakra to preform various feats and techniques. All 3 are essential when becoming a ninja, but some have managed to get by with just one
- The 5 core elements that make up the Naruto universe include Wind, Lightning, Water, Fire, and Earth. They can be combined when preforming jutsu to increase their versatility, and combined before they become jutsu to create Kekkeh Genkai.
- A Kekkeh Genkai is a skill or ability that is exclusive to a clan, a group of people, or a single person. Kekkeh genkai usually come in the forms of the basic 3 ninja skills, dojutsu, or combined elements. Some kekkeh genkais can be learned, while others are born with it. Examples of all include the sharingan, youton, hyoton, meiton, shadow techniques, bug-based ninjutsu, and more.
- Hand seals are used to create and manipulate chakra before a jutsu is preformed. They're generally used to pinpoint the exact amount of chakra, but some people manage to do that on their own, only needing one or two hand seals to preform jutsu.
- All attacks are labeled by their size, shape, power, characteristics, duration, and usually organized in rank. Although the rank of an attack is used to label attacks (So that a small fireball cannot counter a vortex of water), the size and style of the attack both block and overpower a jutsu in different ways, making rank an important factor in organization, and characteristics an important factor in usage. When two jutsu are used in opposition, the rank of a jutsu is first taken into consideration, followed by what kind of jutsu it is, and it's characteristics.
- Nature Manipulation is chakra's ability to transform into another element. This is used to create the basic 5 elements, as well as custom and KG elements. Shape transformation is chakra's ability to move, rotate, and change size in order to form itself into a specific attack. When used in conjunction, they can form jutsu like "Fuuton: Rasenshiruken"

Nico Robin answers and clarifies the students' response. "Well, as for the second to last question, imagine a rasengan, which is A-ranked, against B-ranked exploding colliding wave. Because it is considerably smaller than the massive wave of water, it will lose even though theoretically, it should cancel it out due to rank. One must consider momentum, size, mass, and a lot of other things when countering specific techniques. Another good example is a small barrage of normal kunai's - a single kunai along with an explosive tag would easily cause them to disperse because of the force of the explosion. Nature transformation is changing the nature of the chakra into the properties of one of the five elements, or multiple to create new elements. This allows you to perform elemental ninjutsu. Your shape manipulation explanation was spot on, nice."

Sanya tosses his sensei a scroll of his own, pre-prepared for such a question to be presented. Along with that, he steps on the ground to feel the solidity and density of the earth. It's hard enough to be usable, but in an area like this, the boulders surrounding him would provide a better source for his techniques.
"If Doton were to flow through my chakra, it would probably cause it to be more dense, and stable. I would feel bound to the earth and, more or less, obligated to use it as a defense."

➔ Description: Doton, or earth style, is a powerful nature transformation that involves the formation or control of earth using chakra. Earth style is known to be very dense and immobile, and usually is the primary characteristic in it's combined jutsu and Kekkeh Genkai. Doton comes in a wide variety of characteristics, including soft earth, mud, solid earth, powdered earth, splints, boulders, and more. It also can be moved like water or become thin like air. It's a very diverse nature transformation. In short, it is a strong and diverse nature transformation that exists in the Narutoverse.
➔ Strengths/Weaknesses: Doton is strong against water because it can easily absorb water, or has pre-existing water inside of it. Doton is weak against Lightning because it's properties allow it to travel through the ground and easily break it.
➔ Kekkeh Genkai: Doton is a part of 3 different kekkeh genkai and 1 kekkeh tota. The first is Mokuton, created by the First Hokage, which has a very strong presence of earth-like structure. The second is Youton, which is used by ninja like Mei, and creates corrosive lava, molten rock, and rubber (depending on who you are.) The third is Shoton, which creates crystal structures with earth-like properties. The KT is Jinton, which creates pure energy from Earth, Fire, and Wind, and can completely destroys objects on a molecular level.
➔ Combinations: When combined with fire, the earth gets super heated and becomes pliable. When combined with water, the earth becomes soaked and pliable.
➔ Goals: I want to learn earth style for the following reasons:
- Earth is a very diverse element, which will allow me to create and counter attacks in a variety of ways.
- A mastery over earth will lead into Mokuton training (If Yamato gets accepted.)
- Earth is a great NT for defensive maneuvering and techniques.

Earth release is commonly used to change the composition and mass of earth, so it can be as soft as clay, or hard as steel, while being as heavy as a meteor or light as a feather. Most earth techniques require physical contact with the earth itself, while other techniques that specifically state otherwise allow the user to perform it without having to make contact with earth. Earth is affiliated with Iwagakure and is an extremely versatile element because not only is it best for defensive usages, offensive uses of this technique is fairly powerful as well. Fire and earth can together can create makeshift lava-type techniques, and it can heat up the earth which is extremely useful. That is all I have to add. Also, water is weak to earth primarily because earth is denser, and because of it, its unified makeup prevents water from overpowering it, or destroying it. (Assuming it is of similar rank and size)"

They should be unified together while performing nature transformation and heavy as well." She handed the paper to the student, and as he grabbed it, she continued, "I assume you know of this special piece of paper. It reacts with certain elemental nature once you channel X element into it. Today, I want you to channel earth-based chakra onto the chakra paper. Remember your training up to now, how you described earth and how it felt and especially, how earth chakra's properties should be like. The desired effects is that the earth chakra would influence the chakra paper in such a way that it hardens and cripples. Give it a try, and we'll move on with the techniques once you've done so successfully!"

This'll be an interesting approach. I'm actually not used to this paper, so this will be a two-step process.
After listening to his sensei's instructions, Sanya takes the paper she handed to him and exams it closely. He could feel it drawing out his chakra slowly, and decided to save that part for later. First, what he was used to.
Although the ground was stable and compact, it was not invincible. Taking a kunai out of his weapon pouch, he began do chip away at the earth until he had a small clump about the size of his index finger. As an easier means of getting to know what earth chakra was like, he infused the earth in his palm with chakra, creating a link through his Tenketsu and to the earth. Using shape manipulation, he molded the chakra directly around the earth. It was a nice, hard substance. He could feel every particle, something he wouldn't be able to get to without proper training and knowledge, but still sensible as a whole. Closing his eyes, he allowed himself to feel the earth, the definition of the clump of dirt and the abilities held within it. He was well aware of what "Earth" was in this sense. Any type of material comprised of organic and compacted minerals, meaning that he needed to replicate that inside of his body.
He dropped the dirt, a small amount of it still on his fingers. Unlike Suiton, where he could simply use the saliva in his mouth or the hydration is his body as a base for his first jutsu, he had to think of something different. If rocks were made of minerals, than he could use some of the ones inside of him. Calcium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Sulfur, Sodium, Chlorine, and Magnesium. He'd have to base it off of what he knew was in rocks. He could also use some of the organic material inside of him. Although manipulating earth chakra was one thing, making it would be another. Using his chakra, he pulled a small amount of Calcium from his body and moved it to his hands. He also did this for Sodium and Potassium. Along with that, he pulled chakra residing in his skin and sent it to his fingers. With enough minerals and organic material, he allowed his chakra to replicate it's properties as a whole, and sent it through the paper. As it went through, he compacted the chakra into a thick mass of energy and minerals. Finally going to the paper, it reacted in an interesting way. The paper began to change color, straightening and turning a dark brown. After that, it became slightly wet, and crumbled away to nothing.
"Was that good, sensei?"
The paper does not crumble, and in fact, remains untouched. "You may have been overestimating the makeup of earth. Alright, so generally speaking, Earth is earth. The elements like Calcium and phosphorus that you listed - all of those are not going to be found in every single earth structure, hence why we are trained to earth alone, otherwise, channeling and transforming the chakra into the nature of say, calcium, would be considered a custom element. Do it again, and this time, don't overthink it. Just think of the sturdy properties of earth - all the generalized things, and it should be fine."

Taking a second try, Sanya decided that his Sensei was right, and trying to forcibly make earth instead of make earth from chakra was a terrible idea. Instead, he would try this just like how he tried with water. Pinching his paper, he poured some chakra into the paper and began to mold it. Since most earth is simply a compacted mass of matter, he began to pour as much chakra as he could into the paper, and compacted it together until it was a thick and immobile mass of energy. Using nature transformation, he began to mold the image of a pliable, rough, hard mass, and put that into his chakra. Soon after, the paper turned into a crumbled mass of dirt, and fell off his hand.
The piece of paper crumbles into nothingness. "Perfect!! Nice job, let's continue with the real training then." Nico Robin said with enthusiasm, as she walks the student towards a larger area, clear of space. "Recall the feeling of earth chakra. How you created and manipulated it, and basically the characteristics of earth. Now, gather chakra and apply nature transformation, changing it to the properties of earth thereby creating earth chakra. Once you've done so, channel the earth chakra through your feet, or your hands if you're making physical contact with your hand and shape out constructs of earth. They are considerable weak and small because of the low-level chakra used, but nonetheless can be used in battle if used creatively. It can create a pillar for supplementary usages like to push yourself off, a small shield to defend again weak attacks, or tools or small constructs to attack the enemy with. Now, demonstrate your ability to mold and manipulate earth chakra by creating one of each. Then, give me one advantage, one disadvantage, and creative usages!"

After listening to his sensei's instructions, Sanya begins to gather earth chakra within his palm. He creates a mass of chakra, then concentrates it into the thick mass that he had made before. After applying a nature transformation that held the stable and connecting properties of earth, he released it out of his palm to form a clumb of dirt. Using shape manipulation, and adding in more chakra, he created a brownish-grey sword from the Doton chakra he made. Using his other hand, he repeated the process until he had a second mound of dirt, using shape manipulation to mold it into a shield. With a thin sword and a broad shield, he swung the items in the air to see how they worked. Noticing some weakness to the ability, he dropped the weapons and allowed them to turn back into dirt.
On his second attempt, he sent a mass of chakra to his feet, and released it into the earth. Keeping a stable connection, he used his chakra as a lead to pull the earth up in front of him. It took a moment, as he had to use shape transformations while keeping a stable nature transformation, but he successfully made a mound of earth in the shape of a podium. A small sweat broke out just above his brow, and he dropped the pillar.

- Only useful against free-form and D-ranked attacks
- Properties of earth are dependent on your own imagination
- A support platform to launch into the air
- Multiple pillars to change the battlefield

- Weapons that can branch out into more weapons (Similar to how naruto's chakra arm in his 4-tails form could sprout another arm.
"Nice thought process, but it is not in the scope of the technique to use other versions of earth like mud through this technique. The beauty of this technique lies in its simplicity and how useful it could be, depending on the users' usage and imagination. I, personally, don't use it often but when I do, it is usually used to break out of low ranking illusions through small earth spikes or evasion."
Nico Robin proceeds with the next lesson. "Okay, the next one is sort of similar to the last one we just learned. It's simple and there is two different ways it can be used. Using your chakra, channel earth chakra through the earth around you and perform nature transformation to change the nature of your normal chakra into the sturdy and earthly properties of, well, earth. Once you've successfully created Earth chakra, I would like you to use shape manipulation to create multiple chunks of earth, which would join together to create a staff of sorts." As she spoke, she places three dummies in the training grounds, ten meters away from where the student stood. "The first way of making it can be used as a weapon for melee based freeform attack or as a projectile. The second way is to manipulate the earth to create multiple staves, and launch them all at once towards the target. Either way, accuracy is important for it to be successful. I'd like you to perform the latter way, to launch three different staves towards the three training dummies in front of you." Nico Robin paints "X's" on the training dummy's stomach, showing the target point. "How would you use both methods in battle? And what are the techniques' limitations?"

Sanya looked at his sensei with a small amount of confusion. "Sensei, if I'm manipulating the earth itself, couldn't I just use regular shape transformation rather than making more earth chakra?"
"Well, you need chakra to perform shape manipulation. Earth alone is just earth. Earth with chakra, on the other hand, can create many different things. So, no you cant shape anything from the earth until you have channeled earth chakra into it. Hope that cleared up any confusion."

Sanya nodded at his sensei's response before moving into a stationary position. He channeled his chakra to his feet, then dispersed it into the ground. Condensing it together into a hard and sturdy substance, he successfully made a mound of earth chakra that was linked to the ground below him. Now, shape manipulation taking it's lead, he sectioned off a part of his chakra towards the surface, making a cylinder of chakra, then pulled it out of the ground using shape manipulation. As it launched out, he grabbed onto the staff and spun it around his body. It wasn't his ideal weapon, but it could be useful in some cases. Dropping the staff and releasing his chakra back into the earth, he sectioned off 3 of them at once, using shape manipulation to it's fullest extent to launch them out of the ground and towards the dummies. One of them hit the dummies head, another one hit it's arm, and the third hit right above the X mark.

Limitations:
- Accuracy is at play rather than strength, and a lack of the former would result in a wasted technique. (2)
- The poles do not have a large "hitbox", so they could be easily dodged. (2)
- The pole is very weak and could be broken with another tool or weapon. (1)
- The pole is not sharp, so it has less offensive advantages. (1)
- Can be launched from under someone as a surprise attack. (2)

- Can be used as a weapon for Fuuton Techniques. (1)

This technique only has two applications: Throwing it as a projectile, or using it as a weapon with melee based attacks, and therefore, having it rise up from underneath the target would not work." Nico robin explained, as she planted yet another training dummy on the ground. "Let's move on. The next technique is one that involves creating your own earth source. Channel a mass of chakra in one of your arm, and perform nature transformation to change the nature of your chakra to the solid properties of earth. Release your chakra from your arm to create a ring of rocks that float around your arm, with shape manipulation of course. With a single hand motion, I want you to fling the ring of rocks towards the training dummy. Explain the different usages you could do with this technique, and also, any disadvantages you see."

Sanya paces back and forth aimlessly as his sensei goes on with the next technique. Once she finishes, he holds his arm out in front of himself and channels chakra through his arm. The invisible energy begins to release from his arm, and he collects it in condensed rings from his wrist to his elbow. Once he successfully gives it earth-like properties, he allows the rings to float over his arm and examines them. They're fairly thin yet have many purposes and uses. He pulls his arm back and launches the ring off of his forearm, watching as it spins around and hits his head with a small bit of knockback.
Limitations:
- The size of the rocks are too small to cause any severe damage
- The rocks have no defensive or supplementary uses that would be essential in battle
- Hovering the ring near an enemies limb and forcing them down to conceal said limb (can generally be used as a means of controlling the limb or damaging the whole thing)
"Nicely done, i have no complaints... so, we continue!" Nico Robin walks the student to an opened area, with a rocky terrain as always. She performs a single hand seal and continues to explain the technique. "Through this hand seal, the Ram hand seal, I want you to channel chakra in the ground within mid or long range and perform nature transformation to change the nature of your chakra into the properties of earth. Using the newly modified earth chakra, I want you to control the earth underneath your target and have it rise up as two sections of rock. They would move inward and proceed to crush the enemy, resulting in death in most cases." Nico Robin makes a hand seal and a clone runs in front of the student, about ten meters. "Perform the technique to my clone which should force her to disperse in a puff of smoke. Once you're done, tell me how you would use this in battle, and how you would defend from this technique. Start!"

With your earth chakra, transform the earth into fine sand which allows you to dig through it with ease. You would be continuously manipulating the earth and turning it into sand in order to actually move, therefore you are unable to perform other techniques. If you were to stop channeling earth chakra, the earth would concave and crush you immediately, which is why it is such a dangerous technique. You are able to sense what is happening to the surface and use the information to launch surprise attacks. Furthermore, the earth turns to its original state shortly after, leaving behind no trace of where you entered the earth, or left. Anyways, give me the disadvantages of this technique and how you would use it in battle, in terms of combinations and such." Nico Robin throws the two kunais towards the student, expecting him to dive to the ground in response.
