Why men are getting "girly" ? Because In the golden age of Manga, it was for young boys only. The series out there were more "closed", really focusing for them.

But since a lot of women started to read shonen/seinen and lot of guys reading shojo/josei and moreover saying out loud. The authors and editors understood that and tried to mix the badassness of shonen while attracting girls with bisho. ( It looks basic but It's just a resume of the idea)

One of the first who could do it well in my mind was Rurouni Kenshin, with a very "androgynious" MC ( not sure about grammar).

But there are still a lot of what i'd call "pure breed" shonen out there: Shijou saikyo no deshi kenichi who ended a few month ago, Toriko, Jojo's series, Hajime no ippo... with badassness at every corner.

Sadly they are not really famous outside japan ( unless among real fans of shonen who knows relly well that stuff)
So if you don't like "girly look" shonen, you still have those more traditional ones ^^

Please don't get me confused, I have no problems with homosexuals, what a person chooses to do with their life is their business. Just wanted to get that out of the way before anyone gets the wrong impression. However, I do have my own beliefs though...but that's for another discussion entirely.

I think we all get what you meant and didn't take it out of context. At least I hope so. And it just seems to be a cultural thing. Western style animation tend to lean toward the macho type "manly" men in comics/animation where as eastern animation/manga tend to have more effeminate protagonist/antagonist.

But that's what their culture finds appealing more. But you have guys like Guts/Goku/Bulat etc who are manly enough by western standards anyway. So yeah probably a cultural thing.
