My only question is this. So yes Sharingan can pierce through visual illusions within the appropriate rank. What if an illusion affects two senses being touch and sight. Take the snake constriction illusion (B-Rank) as an example. Sorry I couldn't get the exact name ;_;. Should you reason it is an illusion can you also say that you can see past the visual aspect of it but you are still bound in place by the illusion itself?
Well, while it does have a binding aspect, it is first and foremost a visual genjutsu. Even if the snakes don't bind you, they are a visual illusion and as such can be pierced through.
Well, while it does have a binding aspect, it is first and foremost a visual genjutsu. Even if the snakes don't bind you, they are a visual illusion and as such can be pierced through.
Alright. That clears pretty much all of it then. And thank you for the point on the eyes not increasing the range of the genjutsu. Didn't recognize that before. No questions .
Now, in order to speed training and make it actually useful, I grouped Sharingan genjutsus into classes. They can be best divided into Genjutsus of similar groups instead of the repetitive grinding of the same ones over and over.
The first are the Sharingan Genjutsus that do not require direct eye contact, but rather a line of sight of the opponent. A large portion of these genjutsus are designed to incapacitate the foe while not causing direct damage to them in most cases. These methods include binding, and paralyzation
None Eye Contact Requiring Genjutsu:
(Doujutsu: Shiranui) - Eye Technique: Phosphorescent light
Rank: C
Type: Offensive, Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: 30
Description: The user will cast an illusion to make the opponent see six copies of the user that detonate simultaneously harming the target. The explosions are explosive kunai to deal damage whilst the enemy is distracted in the genjutsu.
Note: Requires tomoe 3 sharingan.
Relatively easy to cast, you cast the illusion that there are suddenly 6 of you that attack him by exploding. What really happens is you throw explosive kunai hidden by the genjutsu. It doesn't require eye contact, but it does require the 3 Tomoe Sharingan to be active.
(Bōshi Genjutsu: Koukon Karasu) – Illusionary Eye Technique: Dusk Crow
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: This is an advanced Sharingan technique the user traps the enemy in an illusion without any eye contact, similar to Ephermal. The Genjutsu traps the victim in a torrent of crows, leaving them at the users mercy.
I can't find the exact scene it was found in the anime, but I have a picture of it below. Under the picture is a varied usage of it by Itachi in a game. It can be seen at 1:43 - 1:54.
(Bōshi Genjutsu: Utakata) - Illusion Eye Technique: Ephemeral
Rank: B
Type:Supplementary
Range:Short-Mid
Chakra Cost:20
Damage Points:40
Description: An illusion were the user simple points at the target and if the target glances at the pointing hand they fall into a genjutsu where they first see birds and then they turn to kunai that attack them. They are future damaged by being tortured by images of there friend insulting them.
Note:This is an advanced sharingan genjutsu.
A genjutsu that Itachi used against Naruto with the aim of causing him to pass out. He pointed his hand and caused a flock of crows to fly towards Naruto, that swiftly turn into shuriken that pierce the target and slash him, causing pain. As this happens, the pain is intended to break the target's concentration and fall asleep. However, they likely won't and will stay woke, trying to resist the genjutsu. As this happens, they see their body parts changing into the faces and bodies of their old friends and allies, tormenting and ridiculing them. This mental torture is used with the goal of causing the enemy to pass out and faint in the genjutsu while forcing them to sleep in the real world. (Doujutsu: Chuubo no Yuuku) – Eye Technique: Paralyzing Fear
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short – Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user will cast a Genjutsu upon the target in which they will see a shadowy figure appear infront of them bearing the Sharingan and then the figure will grow to an enormous size over shadowing the target in pitch-black darkness. The figure will then grab hold of the target and then will cover them in black threads, leaving them paralyzed for a period of time. (This was shown by sasuke against Shi)
Note: Must have tomoe 3 to use and paralyzing effects last 1 turn.
By having a line of sight to the foe, you cast a genjutsu on them that causes them to see a massive figure in front of them that bears the Sharingan. This figure grabs the target and causes paralyazation to come into effect for a turn.
( Dōjutsu: Jigokuken ) - Eye Technique: Sword Hell
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Descrption: The user casts the illusion upon the opponent where the surroundings similary to Tsukiyomi go black and white and swords then begin levitating around the user and the opponent spinning around before the user then manipulates the swords to peirce the opponents body. The initial attack causes mental damage and temporarily paralyses the opponents body restricting their overall performance. (paralysing lasts 1 turn)
Note: Can only be used with tomo 3 sharingan.
Similar to the above, you cause the opponent to see several swords around them this time, all of which pierce the body and prevent movement while causing mental damage ( this should be edited to reflect this btw ) and 1 turn paralyzation as well.
(Doujutsu: Hazumi no Reikon) - Eye Technique: Bound by Soul Technique
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user will cast a genjutsu that immobilizes the target. In the genjutsu the target is bound to a leaf spinning around in the dark. This technique temporarily binds the target leaving them open to attack. (this technique is shown when sasuke tried to bind killer bee in genjutsu but to ill effect from being released by his bijuu).
Note: Must have tomo 3 sharingan and bind lasting 1 turn.
Once more, as you see, this Genjutsu also incapacitates the enemy for a single turn, this time bound to a leaf spinning in the dark.
You can see the similarities between all of these rather easily. I want you to read and give your analysis on each of them.

Simple and straight forward illusionary technique. So I've seen this used in battle tests often at times. Not too often elsewhere. So essentially these copies appear out of no where as the illusion makes no mention of a poof of smoke similar to that of the Shadow Clone technique so that is what makes this genjutsu fairly easy to deduce. And of course during that time as you mentioned you whip an explosive kunai at an opponent while in the illusion the copies detonate simultaneously. So that is how the kunai's explosion is disguised. But there is a delay before that and that is the time it takes for the kunai to reach the target. I think that is the only part of this technique I don't like. The fact that you have to attack with a kunai instead of something else. Not that kunais are bad. Its just quite restricting.
So this is Itachi's signature move kind of. Or at least how I see it where his body bursts into a barrage of crows which swarm the target distracting them and leaving them at the user's mercy as the technique so kindly points out. Pretty straight forward and nice that it doesn't require direct eye contact as this can be quite handy. This one can actually be a bit difficult to deduce depending on how the user words it as it isn't crazy to think that someone can replace their body with a barrage of crows. I think there's a canon tech in the crow ninjutsu list that does just that but actually summons real crows. So with some good description this technique can be quite tricky and definitely leaves an opening to attack. Most people will probably just use hardening to defend against it.
I remember seeing this one for the first time. Was like wtf T_T. Anyways. This is pretty straight forward yet again nothing too complicated here. Now what makes this cool is that you can have their friends appear where you would like them to appear. For example, Gaara appeared on Naruto's hand and Kakashi on his shoulder. They don't have to appear as if they are standing outside of their body, although I think that is certainly within the scope of this genjutsu as well. So it is obvious in that regard that they will know that it is a genjutsu when they are being tortured by their friends like that. Although I can see this being useful against a duo where you can make that friend who is their ally recite insults at the victim in the illusion making it quite realistic. Also I have to say this is nice for simple RP too.
(Doujutsu: Chuubo no Yuuku) – Eye Technique: Paralyzing Fear
Once again another straight forward genjutsu that is laid out pretty nicely. So beyond what you said I also like how once the figure shadows over them it brings the target into pitch black darkness meaning they can't even see their own body. Or at least that is how I see that in the illusion. So you can't metagame (if you have a dojutus) that you see your chakra system in the illusion. Although it is fairly obvious that it is an illusion from the random shadowy figure bearing a Sharingan. But nonetheless a nice quick way to paralyze someone that doesn't require eye contact.
Fairly straight forward yet again. So its a nice paralysis genjutsu that will paralyze them only after the swords pierce their body in the illusion. So they have that short window of time where they can break out before the paralysis takes effect and causes the mental damage. Also should the swords pierce the body the mental damage is fairly high (40 I assume) so I could see this being enough pain to cause someone to pass out.
(Doujutsu: Hazumi no Reikon) - Eye Technique: Bound by Soul Technique
Alright so this is the one that Sasuke used on Kirabi in their fight. Essentially you bind them to a leaf pierce their body and prevent movement for a single turn. Not only does it do that but it also blinds them as they can only see the genjutsu (being the leaf and darkness around them from what I recall). So they can't see reality and this definitely does leave a nice opening. This, unlike the previous technique, has no delay between the binding time and the start of the genjutsu as they are automatically bound. Although that in a way makes it easier to know that they are bound by an illusion.
Dusk Crow: Yeah, that one is a favorite of mine actually; I like using it a lot. When used by an Itachi bio, it becomes even harder to detect as it could be a Crow jutsu's effects.
Ephemerel: Right. You can make the enemy's friends appear anywhere in the illusion, even as full bodied figures. You are right that at times it becomes easy to detect that it has been cast, but the best way to cover this is to form the opponent's friends first far off, away from them first to make it appear as if they walked onto the field instead of appearing on field, which is often a dead giveaway. Have them appear away and come closer towards you fast while insulting them can make it appear much realer. Torture wise, it has it's uses as well, toying with the enemy's mind as you switch between torture and illusions of them allies torturing and reprimanding them, causing confusion amongst other things.
Paralyzing Fear: Well, you are right though I should point out: Even if shrouded in complete darkness, that only affects the normal vision, and not the chakra enhanced vision. Your normal eyes will be blinded for sure, but your Sharingan will still pick up on the chakra present.
Sword Hell: All right, yes it causes A ranked mental damage.
Alright, next are Sharingan Genjutsu that require eye sight. These are the harder ones to pull off, but often more rewarding and powerful compared to the last group I taught you. Some of these, as you may notice, have the ability to affect long range foes.
(Bōshi Magen: Kyouten Chiten) - Demonic Eye Illusion: Heaven And Earth Change
Rank:C-S
Range:Short-Long
Chakra Cost: N/A (equal to the cost of the countered technique)
Damage Points:N/A (equal to the power of the countered technique)
Description:This is a illusion counter were, through the use of their sharingan, an Uchiha can take control over an enemy illusionary techniques and reverse it back into the opponent by taking control of it and releasing oneself at the same time. With 1 Tomoe, it can affect C-Rank and below illusions. With 2 Tomoe it can affect B-Rank and bellow illusions. With a 3 Tomoe, it can affect A-Rank and below illusions. With MS/EMS it can affect S-Rank and bellow illusions. Can only be used once every two turns.
Pretty epic, this is useful in battles when a genjutsu has been placed upon you. After first realizing you are indeed in a genjutsu through whatever method you have available ( sentient armors, outside sources confirming it, reasoning, Sharingan if visual genjutsus, etc ), you channel chakra and whatever illusion was afflicting you will be reversed onto them. The main issue I have with it is that it states the various levels it can be used at, yet Sharingan genjutsu can only be learned at 3 Tomoe level, making 1T and 2T parts pointless. Anyway, as this is 3T training, your Sharingan will be able to reverse up to A ranked and below illusions and cast the enemy themselves under their own illusion. There is debate over whether eye contact is needed to cast this or not, aswhen ITachi used it, he was looking up at Kurenai but there is no clear indicator that he was looking into her eyes and vice versa. For now, until a consensus is reached, assume that eye contact is needed.
( Doujutsu: Genjutsu Sharingan ) - Eye Technique: Copy Wheel Eye Illusion

Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15 - 40
Damage points: N/A
Description: This technique is simply the use of generic genjutsu used by members of the Uchiha clan. By simply having their opponents look into their eyes, the Uchiha can lock the user within a genjutsu of their choosing.
Note: Can only be used with 3 tomoe sharingan
Possibly, the best Sharingan genjutsu there is. its used to make pretty much any genjutsu the user wishes "given that it's logical enough" through eye contact, yes, any genjutsu you want can be done by this technique, it doesn't mean posting a technique, only using your imagination to create a genjutsu, it doesn't mean that you have to use a cannon genjutsu through eye contact, the technique itself is a genjutsu, but the condition to meet for it is hard, which is mutual eye contact. The usage for this technique can vary, given that there are different types of genjutsu, it can be used as one to deceive your opponent, or paralyze them using chains or similar means, it can go as far as to control your opponent's movements and force them to do something "one of the Sharingan genjutsu's abilities", which is why custom Sharingan genjutsu is banned from submission, this technique compensates for that.
(Bōshi Magen: Nenshou Kamihada ) Demonic Eye Illusion: Burning Paper Body
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 25
Damage: N/A
Description: A sharingan Genjutsu, it requires eye contact with the opponent. The opponent is then made to believe that their body is made of paper and is burning, reducing their dexterity of movement, stopping them from performing handseals.
Note: Requires three tomoe Sharingan and eye contact
Itachi performed this in the anime and it was unnamed at the time, just known as an unspecified generic Sharingan genjutsu. This is one of the various jutsus they used. Looking at the foe's eyes, you trap them in this genjutsu where they believe their limbs are paper and as such, are scared to move their bodies much due to this fear.

Range: Short-Long
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage: N/A
A weaker version of Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes, it makes the opponent believe that numerous black feathers have pierced their body and trapped them, causing them pain and immobility.
Note: Requires two tomoe Sharingan and eye contact to use
I had previously looked for this one but was unable to locate it. Thankfully, Rikerslade found a pic for it during his training. But it's essentially a genjutsu created through eye contact, that causes them to believe a lot of feathers have pierced the body and trapped them, causing them mental pain and preventing movement.

(Bōshi Magen: Kasegui no Jutsu) - Demonic Eye Illusion :Shackling Stakes
Rank: A
Type:Supplementary
Range: Close
Chakra Cost:30
Damage Points: N/A
Description:A Genjutsu technique unique to the Uchiha bloodline Sharingan holders. After activating their Sharingan, the clan member will look into the eyes of their target to bind them with a paralyzing illusion. This illusion takes the form of giant spikes which stake them in place and restrict their movement. A powerful enough ninja will be able to fight the bind to give themselves an opportunity to gain freedom.
Note: Requires Tomo 3 sharingan.
Pretty much an advanced version of Piercing Feathers, you lock eyes and bind them in an illusion where they are bound by giant spikes that pierce them in lock them into place. A ninja of high enough rank (read: higher rank) will be able to fight the binding off and move while the spikes are pierced through them, though to little effect if you cause them to pierce the right places, like joints of the limbs.
Been waiting for this one for a while. This is probably one of my favorite techniques in Sharingan genjutsu even with the debate about eye contact being needed (although I agree that no eye contact is required). This essentially is a fourth method of genjutsu release on top of everything you said and effectively allows a 3T user to reverse A-Rank and below genjutsu back upon an opponent. It's just such a useful technique that pretty much means using illusions A-Rank and below on a 3T user is pretty much pointless as you put yourself at risk for being placed under your own illusion. Another point on this is that it is long-range. So any long-range illusions placed on the user of the Sharingan can be reversed back onto the opponent. Although there are very few long-range illusions (old customs maybe, not sure) this still makes it even more useful in that regard. One question - can this reverse sound illusions as normal?
Besides being the best Sharingan genjutsu I honestly think this is one of the best canon illusions. I mean yeah as you said this essentially gives you the power to create any illusion within logical reason and place it on an opponent with simple eye contact. You have control of the strength of the illusion and what happens inside of it. Although I notice that the damage is labeled as N/A meaning you cannot add mental damage to the illusion even if something violent happens in it as technically still no damage happens. Not sure how that would work <_>.
The usages of this are practically limitless. Illusions are simply limited to what the imagination is capable of coming up with which is why this is such an amazing technique. I also had no idea this can be used to suggest actions and control an opponent. That is quite powerful and something I don't think I've seen anyone use so it must be a really underplayed and largely unknown ability of the this illusion o-o.
While this technique does require eye contact one could still easily set it up with a simple mistake from the opponent or some skillful close quarters maneuvering.
(Bōshi Magen: Nenshou Kamihada ) Demonic Eye Illusion: Burning Paper Body
Gobi used this on me in my test to interrupt most of my move ,_,. Essentially the illusion burns the paper body making hand seals impossible and overall movement very very difficult due to fear, and overall fragility of the body inside the illusion. The description really doesn't do a justice to how useful this technique is. First off, it is long-range. Which is pretty incredible for stopping an opponent's offensive even at long-range. This technique was used on me when I reached down to slam my hands on the earth to use Great Moving Earth Core and effectively stopped me from doing so since my hands were on fire and what not. The illusion is very easy to deduce but the pause in an opponent's offensive is where this illusion is really useful. Other than the Copy Wheel Eye Illusion this honestly is probably one of my favorite Sharingan illusions.
Another useful one similar to that of Burning Paper Body where you trap them in an illusion piercing their body with feathers and causing immense pain and immobility. So once again this is really useful in stopping and interrupting an opponent. It is a long-range illusion making it even better in that sense. The illusion, as like the last one, is very easy to deduce but that isn't where this illusion (or the last) pride themselves in their usefulness.
Alright so similar to the other illusions that stop movement this one does the same in the sense that you just impale an opponent in the illusion with big spikes. First thing to note is the range on this technique. I assume "close" means short so this is really good for close range encounters in the sense that you can choose where you impale the spikes restricting certain movements or all movement entirely. Because you can pick where the spikes impale the target you can prevent evasion, counters, and other general movements which are essential in taijutsu. So while this illusion lacks in range it makes up for that with its incredible potency in close range. The illusion itself is fairly easy to deduce however and a lot of people will simply release from it with Nagashi. And because Nagashi is a close-range surge it leaves the user vulnerable so measures should be taken to ensure that Nagashi doesn't put the user in a bad spot should the opponent use it to break the illusion.
I'm of the opinion that no, it cannot reverse Sound genjutsu. Normal Gen and Doujutsu Gen are able to be reversed, yes. It is also capable of reaching long range to cast genjutsus on them.
"The usages of this are practically limitless. Illusions are simply limited to what the imagination is capable of coming up with which is why this is such an amazing technique. I also had no idea this can be used to suggest actions and control an opponent."
I figured you would respond like this, so I should clarify: As I said before, Hypnotism is a power of Sharingan, capable of making minor suggestions to the enemy that can control them. Depending on how logical and reasonable the genjutsu you create, you might inadvertently cause the opponent to act and behave in a certain way, while not directly controlling them. An example would be creating a Genjutsu where the enemy feels his arms being chained by chains and pulled upwards, pulling into the air. While this is the effect of the Genjutsu, this would also cause the enemy to raise his arms in reaction, thinking they are being pulled upwards. Like I said, it's pretty limited in that regard but still incredibly useful.
(Bōshi Magen: Nenshou Kamihada ) Demonic Eye Illusion: Burning Paper Body
Yes, it is very useful but one key factor takes away from it's usability. The fact that it requires eye contact makes it much harder to cast and use and most people will "instinctively" look away when the Sharingan is activated. However, should they be of insufficient rank or fail to look away, it is a great genjutsu for interrupting and decoy purposes. As they believe they are paper, like you said, they will fear large movements, which prevents Kai from being used to break it. Something else of note is that they believe they are paper, and as such, their defenses are limited due to this. Look at Paper Ninjutsu's weaknesses/strengths:
Weak to: Oil, Water, Wind. Oil and Water will make the paper weaker and fragile while making it heavier and unable to be controlled properly. Wind will blow the paper away and might, in some more specific applications, cut through it.
Neutral to: Earth and Fire. It was seen that Konan's techniques were able to play in equal terms with great fire techniques, meaning that, although paper is in reality weak to fire, in Narutoverse and when chakra enhanced, it becomes able to play in equal terms against it. Konan's techniques were also see having the ability to become so sharp that they could cut through earthen materials, making it so that it becomes neutral to Earth Release techniques.
Strong to: Lightning. Paper is very strong to lightning because it serves as a good insulator. Electricity and related energies can't be channeled effectively through paper and as such it stands as a double strength towards Lightning release. Magnetism (the direct use of it in Paper and not the Iron/Gold Sand variations).
By playing with this, you can create combos that cause the opponent to be weary of using certain elements to break it, should it be chained together correctly. Imagine casting the gen while simultaneously using an Earth jutsu or a Fire one. Paper is weak to Wind, so if they are unable to properly reason they are in a genjutsu and believe they are truly paper, they would likely use a Wind or Water chakra surge to break it and would likely not use Lightning, which can be used in your favor. Ofc, most will reason it is a genjutsu but still, if done with some nice RP, it could be a cool tactic. Changing your appearance to Konan while they are unable to see you and being in short range and "hitting" them with taijutsu could make them believe it is a Konan jutsu, making breaking it a bit harder. It's all tactics when using Sharingan jutsu.
Yeah, this one is fairly simple as well as being useful. The long range of it make it great although it is fairly simple to reason as a Genjutsu, though that momentary lapse is all that is needed for it to be effective. Like with all gens of this category, the main drawback is the fact that it requires eye contact.
This one is essentially just a more powerful version of the Piercing Feathers illusion but more limited due to the short range. As you said, most would release using Nagashi. One thing to note, however, is the surroundings also change, meaning if you are successful, you can chain this with terrain altering jutsu or other quick jutsu. Imagine forming a rasengan while trapping them in this genjutsu, for example. Even with Nagashi, your Rasengan would be highly effective, making them have to devise another release method, likely Earth Armor at that point.
Now, any more questions? I believe we are nearing the end of training now.
(Doujutsu: Kopī no Jutsu) - Eye Technique: Copy Technique
Rank: E-S
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A
Chakra cost: N/A
Damage points: N/A
Description: After gaining the 3 Tomoe Sharingan, the user gains the ability to copy the technique the enemy is using and use it as his own. The user will first need to witness the technique completely to memorize all aspects of it, including the opponents chakra flow and focus upon using it as well as the hand seals. A limitation of the technique is the inability to mimic and copy KG techniques, fuuinjutsu, kinjutsu, genjutsu, medical ninjutsu or hidden clan/bio techniques.
Note: User needs to have 3 Tomoe active
Note: Can only be done 2 times per battle on techniques that have hand seals
Note: Copied technique can only be used in the match its witnessed and only once
Note: User needs to be capable of performing the technique himself, meaning he needs to have the correct chakra natures, rank, abilities, etc to use the technique. This is also valid for elemental specialties, where the user might be unable to copy a technique by only one handseal unless he has the same specialty as the enemy.
Note: Can only be used on techniques up to S-Rank
Fairly straightforward in it's description, this jutsu allows you to use jutsu that your Sharingan sees being performed, as long as you meet the requirements to use it. For example, if you see someone performing Water Dragon, you are able to copy this jutsu perfectly if they perform the full list of hand seals, but if a Water specialist performs it with one seal, you will likely be unable to use it as you may not have the same one seal Water specialty. The user is also unable to copy jutsus for abilities they do not have, such as KGs, Doujutsus, EIG, etc. In most cases, it has very little cannon use as we all know the same cannon jutsu. It counts as a move from your 3 per turn but not as a time frame event. You need to post the technique in the move after the jutsu you want to copy, noting that you copied it. However, once you copied it, you're free to use it during that fight afterwards but only one time. The restriction in terms of number of times and the fact that it can't be used outside the battle it was witnessed was to prevent people from copying other peoples cjs and gain them indefinitely which would lead to complaints. This way you can still copy them but you can only use them in that single fight.
Yeah, I don't see this having much use in a canon fight between two people who have completed their basic training. However, the technique essentially allows you to use the customs of your opponent as long as you meet the requirements of being able to copy and use them. So, the way you phrased it is that say someone performs the Water Dragon with a water specialty but you yourself are also a water specialist, you are still able to copy it despite the single hand seal? And say the opponent has a technique that only requires a single hand seal but neither you nor him/her are a specialist, can it still be copied?
Yes to the question about Water Dragon. If you both have the same speciality, you are able to use the copied jutsu with a lone seal. If they have a specialty that you do not have and use a jutsu with a single seal, then no you cannot copy it.

You're welcome, Sharingan Trainings are one of the few fields I still like teaching lol. I consider myself one of the top Sharingan users and as it's abused a lot these days, I try to make sure people understand how to wield it properly. If you have any questions in the future, dont hesitate to post and link me.
