Because eventually you'll be forgotten anyway, strive for something you'll be proud of but for yourself. Since no one in the world knows your story from your perspective, they can never know you fully and their picture of you will always be inaccurate, vague and just plain false. You're better than that, let the journey lead you, have faith that there is a hidden meaning for why things happen, you'll be much more fulfilled than any surface level experience or validation could give you, not that you'll be able to know people's opinions once you're dead anyway.
