yes it is her right to act whatever way she wants, as long as she doesnt hurt anyone and acts within the law. you think hitting is the only way to parent a kid? wow i feel sorry for you.
And I feel sorry for the way your parents taught you, if you believe everyone can do whatever they want. Sorry, pal, there are circumstances for everything. Teacher tells student to do something, student does it. It's simple as that. I never said hitting a kid is the way of parenting.

If the kid acts like spoiled brat, the parent tries to talk to them few times. They try to ban their favourite things, like electronic devices. If that doesn't work either, then them hit them in a nice manner of course.

I would feel sad if you ended up having kids like that, and you done nothing about it, according to your reasoning.

yea of course it was a silly reason. but that doesnt give the teacher the right to touch her! yea she needs to get punished. but not this way! wheres the border then? next time he punches her in the face because she said she didnt feel like swimming? whats next? wether you like it or not, that teachers reaction is from 50 years ago, or current 3rd world coutry. if you want your kids to be threated that way, well good luck and have fun
Like I said, the parents didn't do a good job in raising the girl right. The teacher didn't have rights to do that, but none of the less, the girl needs to be taught properly. I defiantly don't want my kids to be taught the way you want them to be taught, Lol.

Also, she's a 14 year old girl. A teen and has a lot to learn to fit to society. If you honestly believe 14 year old kids can act that way, without the parents doing what's good for them, like teaching them manners and listening to the teacher, then I feel sorry than currently I am for you.

I was raised in a different background, myself, compared to some of you. I used to get hit with a wooden stick when I was 8 years old by my parents, and even got hit more years later. Not something I'm proud of, but I now understand why my parents did what they had to. I was a spoiled brat and didn't listen to what others say, just like that girl, and now I'm 17 and becoming 18 in 6 months, I will have to act on my responsibility. If my parents hadn't taught me right from a young age, who knows what I would become.

*Facepalm* the PE teacher should have been fired on spot .... One simply doesn't drag someone around like that unless its a fight.

Then again my swim coach actually left me in middle of the lake we practiced (Swimming pool is for sissies imo) saying survival instinct is best teacher. (And it actually worked)

PS But why did she bother to get dressed for swimming and appear near the vicinity anyway? I learned at abt age 10 that when you want to avoid something don't get within 1 mile radius of that place.
Apparently the girl did swim- she did the required laps but refused to submerge the head or swim underwater that day because she didn't want the hair to get wet. The teacher got angry because he wanted to her to do it properly and dragged her back to pool.

She should have skipped the class totally. I guess she thought she could explain that she didn't want the hair wet to be able to attend an event later that day.

Anyway teacher shouldn't be laying their hands on any student. He does need to be fired or at least some serious disciplinary action himself after that incident . It wasn't a case of student attacking the teacher nor he was doing it for her own good trying to remove her fear of water or anything like that.

It was simply teacher getting angry that she was not obeying. He could take some other official disciplinary action against the girl but now he needs one for himself.

Also, she's a 14 year old girl. A teen and has a lot to learn to fit to society. If you honestly believe 14 year old kids can act that way, without the parents doing what's good for them, like teaching them manners and listening to the teacher, then I feel sorry than currently I am for you.

Should an adult act that way the teacher did?

She was a 14 year old and repeatedly saying "no" and to "stop" and that her top was coming off by all that dragging. He wouldn't listen. A teacher shouldn't be behaving that way. Period.

i am quite surprised to see some people are actually blaming the girl as well.
she is 14. kids at 14 dont usually make smart choices.they are usually stuboorn. kids are suppose to make mistakes. its adults's responsibility to guide them.
but certainly not the way this teacher is doing.
this is complete idiotic behavior. dragging someone like that? that too a student?
he deserves to get fired.

Fault is to the teacher. You don't drag someone to the pool. You punish her academically. And why did the girl worry so much? Couldn't she do her hair again? I just don't understand the st world anymore.
Getting your hair done professionally is expensive. Normally costs around $50+. She also might not have had time to get it done again before her plans. :/ Teacher is way out of line.

The girl had great hair while the teacher seemed to be developing a bald patch on his head. So I didn't expect him to be sympathetic to a costly hairdo. Not sure about others who think teacher was acting properly. :|

I dont think he was acting properly, an elder one does not drag a youngster like that as imo it is demeaning to both self and the target (especially in a place like Canada) .... It would have been more appropriate if he emptied a bucketful of water on her head.

Not really news worthy.
I believe if she can swim, and he knows, he has every right to throw her into the pool.

But fairly they both have guidelines, the girl should follow orders, and the man shouldn't be negatively touching his students.

They're both stupid.

Don't go to school if you're so worried about your hair.
Don't touch a student if they won't participate. You can get satisfaction from giving them a 0.

Perhaps it was an irritating day mixed with being horny that caused him to drag her like that.

What the hell is wrong with him? He's a grown ass man, you can't be a teacher and think you can force someone to do something. Especially to destroy his career over something silly like this. Failure.

Probably still mean and spiteful under circumstances but more appropriate out of the two options.

Was any physical force necessary in this case? Give her Zero or negative marking in discipline. But she wasn't hurting anyone else, was she? Aren't teacher supposed to teach kids not bully them into submission?
This is where I think the plot thickens .... One does not get dressed and hang around the pool for swimming if one doesn't really want to swim, she was most likely just blending in to get both the attendance while not really participating to keep her hair. But honestly it is is actually childish behavior not really unexpected of children .... So the teacher should have kept cool and acted accordingly, this was not an instance that required physical discipline even personal intervention. Forcing children like that only sows the seed of future rebellion and indiscipline.
