Well if you read the manga first you might be upset with how the anime has done things(they basically are pulling a full metal alchemist), so if I were you, I would watch the anime first.

The original FMA didn't follow the manga all the way and had a non canon ending and that is what AgK is pulling right now, so many of the fans who read the manga are not happy about it.

It doesn't have fanservice Lol, don't know what people are talking about. I've never seen panty shots or half naked female characters fighting. And Read the manga, the anime is not loyal to the series.

Read the manga. The anime skipped a large part of Akame Ga Kill, which was BS.

I have watched the anime, haven't read the manga yet. The anime is still ongoing with 22 episodes released. It has two more episodes to go and the episodes release on Sundays. Try avoiding the anime, so many things are cut. In one episode, two of them are fighting, next episode, fight is skipped and is over already.
As for the story:

Don't get too attached to the characters, most of them die. The main protagonist is Akame, but the story focuses from Tatsumi's POV, who gets the most screen time. Akame gets a little more screen time than the others in the anime. I fear Tatsumi will be killed of soon so that development for Akame's character can take place, she just doesn't feel like she is the main character, more like the second main.
