The fact Itachi used to be the Solo King was true, but now the monk takes the lead. Last time, I checked he was very strong according the Akatsukis and Konoha.

Lel, Kishi did skip the part where Chiriku soloed both Hidan and Kakuzu and if you don't believe me then watch it again and you see both Hidan and Kakuzu got beaten up, but Kishi later found out Chiriku was too powerful = Solo King.
