Naruto isn't dumb, nor is he overly intelligent. His bouts of comedic idiocy merely outshine his intelligent feats. You just have to accept the fact that it's Kishi's poor writing which needs a retcon to make happen.

Not really.He told his Dad he doesnt know much about women so it took him time to discover Hinata's pure love for him.Also how is it a retcon?.NH had powerful moments during the War Arc especially in chapter 615

What I meant was that since he doesnt know much about women he has no idea really what true love is till now.The OP is saying that even Hinata didnt aggressively pursue Naruto that much in those two years so he didnt have an idea of how strong her feelings were.This movie will help him realise that.
