ANBU Shinobi: their skill, relevance forgotten in war.

I remember how ANBU Shinobi always looked cool whenever they'd appear in any panel. They were also obviously on another level since you have to be special in some case to be a part of it. Itachi, Kakashi, Yamato are some notable names which show what kind of caliber the ANBU presented.

I'm a bit disappointed that there was literally no trace of them in this war. It might be because of the Alliance, but still, the masks represented the level of skill and relevance in the battle. It would've been better for the morale if the ANBU were shown on their own, not lumped in with the fodders.

On a serious note, I believe they were meant to be a more special task force, not regular soldiers. Like all those special agents you don't see on front lines.

True, they actually (presumably) did stuff that was more like what real-life ninjas did, and weren't "flashy" with their abilities, instead having those suited for recon/spying, intel gathering etc.

But it would have to be a different story focused on stealthy characters, like those stealth based video games.

You're right on point. The ANBU dudes were the one who were actually stealthy, what ninjas actually do. But yeah, I don't mean to whine like a b*tch, I still wanted a few panels. If the fodders got them, there should've been place for them as well.

They were better than the actual meaning of the fodder. If ANBU were pulling back the Bijuu chakra instead of actual fodders, the task would've been a lot easier.

A perfect opportunity to use them could have been at the medical camp when White Zetsu were running a muck and Edo Itachi and Edo Nagato were waiting around to act. they could have been utilized and displayed to fight those two or counter the white zetsu or something to that effect.

Sure they aren't front line soldiers but all battles in war aren't fought on the front lines.

Orochimaru attack on konoha. The anbu then to us were a mystery and we thought them to be the most skilled under hokage but they proved that to be a lie. Y'all say they are " real ninjas " ...spying, recon and etc. Yet orochimaru participated in all chuunin exam events from the forest to the preliminary to the finals, he and his subordinates dressed up as sound shinobi that orochimaru himself founded which should have been and indication to the spying espionage anbu that something is up. Oro even fooled them as well as kabuto who dressed up as an anbu. They failed to stop hiruzen and the sound 4 easily blocked them out with a barrier and the sound 4 were matched and beaten by genin k11 so the anbu are trash.


They also were useless during the pain arc they could stop 1 summon animal the giant ox and it easily ran through their barriers to stop it..

Anbu = hokage bodyguards

They were regarded as special. They didn't need to do anything special for you to figure out that their overall abilities were superior to an ordinary shinobi.

The ANBU are special, but you can't lump them in with Orochimaru.

Again, you're comparing Nagato to ANBU. They weren't that special.

You are forgetting the fact that Orochimaru is not your average ninja as well. He is a Sannin next step to Hokage, And his sound ninja 5 were above the average chuunin in the fact they had the curse mark and were enhanced due to all sorts of experiments. Now granted you are somewhat correct in that the ANBU weren't really shown to their potential, but as the OP stated many of the SHinobi we think are badass came from ANBU/ROOT

all of them had special traits/characteristics that put them above many other shinobi. The only reason they seemed like fodder is because the story really wasn't centered around anyone within the ANBU ranks.

Then there could be a special ANBU agent who could detect them through other means/jutsu many of the ANBU have "special" abilities. And I said fight I never said win.

No no no not every anbu was special only those 5 you listed. The majority of anbu had zero social life no families and no personal obligations which is why they were anbu in the first place specifically shown with yamato and kakashi being loners during there time as anbu.


During orochimaru's attack they were rendered useless by the first sound 4 who as you said are at least chunnin but there is no way they are anyway they were beaten by genin k11 and since k11 beat them those same k11 would have beat the anbu you held in high regards.



When they got action they couldn't stop 1 animal summon giant Ox... what's you excuse for this???

My post is a reply to another post that said the anbu could have engaged Edo itachi and nagato before they met up with naruto and killer bee and I explained why they would get shitted on.
