Ok, so I thought about this yesterday and I don't think I've seen anyone (here at least) come up with the idea ^^

So here goes.

As we all know, kishi didn't choose to kill off guy and left him in a wheel chair (This is not a rant BTW) and seeing him like that made me think: What if this was intentional?

Hear me out, what if this is a nod to lee in part 1. During his fight with gaara, he almost suffered an irreversible injury to his leg and if tsunade didn't use her advanced medical skills, he would've had to give up on his shinobi life.

Well, what do you know, guy ended up having an irreversible injury to his leg and ended up in a wheelchair, thus ending his shinobi life.

I think, if that is the reason, that it's a cool way to end character. Now, I'm not gonna go all out by saying that lee having an injury to his leg was foreshadowing for guy but I do believe that kishi used this story when he decided to have guy in a wheelchair.

This is just my own interpretation and I may be pushing things a bit too far but I guess it's possible ^^

What do you guys think?

PS: Sorry if this has been said before.

That's a clever interpretation and the fact that Lee managed to surpass his injury while Guy not, may mean that Lee has surpassed him, at least in a way. Kudos to you :)

well, at least kishi didn't make him die so he still can see and feel the peace in Konoha, spend his time with his best friend, his student. it's a right choice kishi made for gai.

Gai's epilogue is ok - he passed on the passion for youth to Lee, so his job is done.

I believe you're in the right track, man. You know how Kishimoto always balance the powers and give value to events in life.

It was Guy the one who told Lee that he would lose his life if Lee's surgeon intervention failed (there was a 50% possibility of fatal result).

But Lee survived... so, there should be a price "in life" for this. In exchange of Lee's shinobi life renewed, Guy had to lose it.

All according to the "new generation surpasses the old one" thing. Making Lee the best taijutsu user in the series atm. I believe his 7th gate will be almost as strong as Gai-senseis 8th gate.

Honestly I wish Gai and Kakashi died.

They both are so irrelevent in Part 3 - Kakashi is going to travel, and Gai is on a wheelchair.

Just too much here. They should of died like heroes.

Gai used eight gate [he should've died] not comparable to Lee's injury...

OT : Still it would've been better if he died after fighting Madara, it's painful to see the guy in a wheelchair [youth ended :(]

That's childish..there's a huge power gap between Gate 7-8...

I think that Kakashi points out during the chunnin exams the cost of using self sacrificing jutsu.

Guys' rebuttle to Kakashi happened years later, and at a moment when it was appropriate.

An all or nothing moment.

It was good to see Guy forced to deal with his age as a character and be willing to sacrifice his life and body for the whole world.

For the new leaves.

Without Guy to clear the way the world would have ended, turned into some kind of moon borg garden.

Plus, could Kishi really kill another of Kakashi's companions?

Kishi has tremendous compassion.
