I recall many times when Hinata has placed Naruto above anyone else's safety. If Naruto is not around or near her, of course she will show concern for other people that are in need.

Also, your scenario of if Hinata not going back to her clan is acceptable then that should apply to Naruto as well when it comes to his village. They didn't give a shit about him so why should he accept them, but of course you override that and accept it, but when it comes to Hinata you bring in a some lame argument of "Hinata doesn't have to care for them"
