I'd like to say I am a Christian(I'm still a work in progress) and I often feel like a lot of us get a bad rep because of people who go on saying people are hell bound and other stuff like that. You know like the clichéd judgmental old man who is always pointing out flaws all the time without really trying to understand and help someone. I feel like I can't have a discussion about religion because people often get hostile b4 any real discussion can take place.

Hi, I'm a non practicing roman catholic when it suits me. Yes, I believe we do get a bad rep. All the bible thumping "west boro baptist church" folk that hit the news often make us out to be crazies. I'm not a fan but hey realize that there are other religions and religious sects that have it far worse.

Well a selected few Christians are judgemental meanies who say shit like your going to hell if you don't believe. But the others can be really nice and non judgemental.

Most Christians are devils at their core, and us logical and free-thinking individuals know that.
Okay???? So we're not free thinking? :)

You got that right.

Oh gosh, I agree.

But theres also the religious denominations that bash others cause "you're doing it wrong" or "you're going against the bible".

I am a Christian, I have been for sixteen years and still am.

I don't necessarily believe that we had a bad rep, I think it is just those who try to force the religion on others.
People need to find Christ personally (with some help to start off) :)

More like judgmental hypocritical pricks. My deceased grandfathers friends church has members who would only accept people who agree with their beliefs and go to their type of church, so those who do not believe in their teachings are bad moral worldly people who do wrong and will go to hell.

I don't care about religion or Christianity considering the mindset that most of them possess.

I was actually born and raised in California haha but yeah Idaho is pretty bad, it's not so much the christians but the mormons that were the problem.
Interesting, but I'm not surprised when I was in high school there was this Mormon girl who thought she could talk trash about Catholics, while there were Catholics IN THE ROOM LOL
She was so eloquent in taking about her religion but was completely wrong when criticizing other religions. Like Catholics pray to statues which is forbidden in the bible and what not, but that is not the case.

With all due respect you sound like the judgmental one here...

Actually every region has extremists and non-extremists.
I am Hindu and my religion has gone through similar set of situations (castism etc), and in some places it is still in practice, although in smaller scale.Same is true in case of Muslim religion(the entire terrorism thing). So there are always factors that give good rep and bad rep to religions. Because thoughts regarding religions and philosophy always change rather grow mature in some cases or if they move towards immaturity, there is a revolution, which is associated with change of people's way of percieving religion.
Also how you look at religion depends upon environment in which you have grown and multiple other factors.

To be fair, if you don't believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, who lived on Earth as fully God and fully man, died for your sins, resurrected, and ascended to heaven, then you're probably going to hell. Rough, I know, but it's how it works. However, I don't think the "fire and brimstone" approach isn't really the best way to convert people to Christianity, especially nowadays.

I'm a Christian, and if you ever have any questions or want to talk about Christianity or anything, hit me up. I like discussing theology and things of that matter. :)
