I noticed a "like" button has recently been implemented. At first I wondered what the purpose of this implementation is, since we could already "like" a post by giving the user some rep. Then I thought that ok this "like" will make the fact that we liked said post visible to the rest of the members, so it does have a point. Plus sometimes I "like" a post but that wouldn't be reason enough to raise the rep of the member. At least it shouldn't be, if the rep system had any meaning, had it worked as it should.
But why no dislike button too? FB said they never gonna make one but here you can neg rep someone, so there is a way to show them you dislike their post. Plus, sometimes a member says something I dislike but it wouldn't really be reason enough to reduce their reputation. Not to mention that even if I do, generally members overreact when you neg rep them ("oh noes my precious rep, go to hell"). Whereas with a simple dislike this would be solved.
P.S. : Btw in some threads I noticed you can "thank" posts. Last time this happened I remember it was a bug so maybe someone should take a look at it.
