Yeah, and if more characters died (in some meaningful ways, of course) the impact would have been stronger. So that it would have felt like those who are alive are lucky. With this conclusion, it feels like the dead were unlucky instead.

If by technological boom you're talking about the laptop then you're an idiot who doesn't even understand the manga hez reading. Computers were shown in part one already when Kabuto was shown assessing Kimimaro's condition and medical history. It's probably been 16-20 years since part one now, why wouldn't there be laptops by then.
