They don't need to. They possess both the genes from both Indra and Ashura. If the genes came up nicely, they could one day awaken the power Naruto and Sasuke have now without Hagoromo giving it.

Probably the new era project. My greatest fear for it is that the project is just a bunch of stuff unrelated to the plot.
