How did Nagato become immobile?

Is that ever stated? I don't necessarily recall reading why or how it happened.

It wasn't because of the soul dragon he used was it? Those rods remained in his back after it went away I think they're still there during the pain arc. Idk.

Anyway, someone wanna explain?

Soul dragon must've really messed him up, because asura path fixes his ability to walk without a problem.

That's why I think it's a combination of the two.

He has a path that allows him to Hover/Fly by controlling gravity, Doesn't use it for mobility

Can use Preta path to make himself healthy again, Never uses it in life.
