Everyone keeps blowing up the manga section of the base, and while this movie is essentially canon to the manga, discussing it should belong in the anime or naruto discussion. This is not canon actually. Kishimoto is overseeing the making of this movie himself.

He's writing the movie.
He's creating all the character designs.
He explicitly said in a VERY recent interview that the movie is an extension of the manga.
He explicitly recommended manga readers go watch the movie right after they finish reading the manga's conclusion.

If all that doesnt constitute something being canon then I don't know what does.

I still dont understand why this is even still debated. Kishimoto confirmed it being canon... in an interview. Not only that but since the first previews have been released, all the evidence directs to the movie being canon. This isnt a debateable topic anymore the proof speaks for itself
