For one, he did use the Rinnegan to absorb Justus but I think that was once.

Second, he may not have relied on that but without Wood Style or Edo Tensei he wouldn't stand a chance.

Edo Hiruzen displayed the ability to use all 5 Elements simultaneously to an incredible A Rank level using only 1 handseal with 4 Kage Bunshins easily matching the same power the Buddha Statue and I repeat, matching the same power with mere Kage Bunshins in a revived state where he is weaker then he was at old age.

He was shown to easily break a monstrous amount of Shinju Branches with Enma with a few strikes while both Tobirama and Minato had no firepower to deal with it to save Naruto from getting sucked dry.

Madara didn't really on Edo tense regeneration, Plus Madara said he was stronger when we was alive (Bind Madara > Edo Madara)
He only used wood release to make clones so he could play around with the kage
He wouldn't have let himself get in a situation where he would be killed by holding back, so EMS Madara would use Perfect Susanoo earlier
Alive Madara would be similar to Bind Madara when it comes to toying with enemies, Bind Madara beat everyone so quickly because he knew if he played around he would be killed and Alive EMS Madara would have been the same way
