Spilt water on laptop

Today at school I accidentally got water on my laptop keyboard, it was a decent splash out of a bottle because someone decided to hit the bottle in my hand when drinking.

Everything seems to be working good (been about 8 hours) and no errors have come up. I've backed up all my school work on a USB.

When it happened I immediately tipped my laptop upside down and shook just about all the water out, took the battery out, gave it a decent upside down shake for 10 minutes or so then held it under the fan in class looking like a bit of a ****wit lol.

As I said everything seems fine now, but is it possible it will corrode or **** up some time within the next few days or even weeks?

thanks

the battery shouldn't corrode due to a little water issue like this... often when corrosion occurs, it's because the battery is inside of something that wasn't used for very long...

or because of rust... but it shouldn't rust... if you've cleaned it and made sure it's dry, you waited 8 hours right? that's more than enough to make battery to dry..

corrosion in a battery appears when the battery acid is leaking out... the battery implodes due to that bad battery acid tend to get some reaction from inner air, i guess?

also, to say... corrosion is highly unlikely to happen to any other battery than Alkaline batteries, especially re-chargeable ones!

but the hell do i know, i don't know a lot about batteries :D

but if you've waited this long... and nothing happened... i wouldn't be worried... the computer heats and the water will vanish...(hopefully at least)

just be happy it wasn't coke/soda or something like that... sticky keyboard sucks, believe it :p

edit n' Quoute;

Alkaline batteries produce hydrogen gas inside the battery cell when recharged. This pressure pushes out a strong base (which is corrosive just like acid). This forms white fluffy stuff when it reacts with the air (Potassium carbonate).

Recharging batteries can be caused by two unequally charged batteries lined up in a row (set in series). This is why you should never use different brands of batteries together, or only replace some of the batteries.

your laptop battery should be safe from corrosion! if the laptop stop working... your friend is the one to pay for a new one! it's his fault >_<

Water doesn't make crunchy/sticky keyboards... Coke/Juice/Soda does cuz of all the sugar

It's been long enough... I would've thought if it screwed it up somehow it would've happened by now :3
I think you're good... Better keep checking it just to be sure though :3

Haha, it was my fault in away, she was complaining she had something in her eye and I went to tip it as a joke, then took a sip then she hit it out of my hand.

Thanks for the replies, I at least hope it lasts another 4-5 weeks until holidays and then I can blame the school for it lol.

Nahh don't worry bro..you're good. I've accidentally spilled water on my laptop twice and close to a year on from the 1st incident, its still in a good condition. And water doesn't cause sticky keyboards. When the liquid from soft drinks dry up, they leave sugar behind and thats what causes sticky boards.

Things to do when you spill water on your electronic devices or it falls in a water
-take out the battery out immediately
-Praise the lord and his miracles water will evaporate
or clean it with ethyl alcohol if you are desperate.
-I have read keeping it in rice bowl for a night will also work, rice will take care of the moisture

Well, you got it working it means that it is fine.

Shaking laptop while it is turned on is a bad idea,it will damage HDD.
