"Nation" isn't exactly what you're thinking it to be in this term. It wasn't that impressive. They actually made an anime arc for Sasori conquering said "nation" and it was rather highly unimpressive...

Seemed to me Diedra's kit was the perfect match against Gaara. He was up in the air the whole time dropping bombs on the sand villagers. I don't know how Sasori would have been able to make such an attack.

Sasori is a genius. With the use of his spies in the village he could've found a more subtle way of taking Gaara. The guy killed the 3rd Kazekage who's pretty much Gaara with less but more powerful sand after all.
Also, in a battle, Gaara's home field advantage would be his weak point, as Deidara already showed. Many civilians would be killed by Sasori's attacks. Gaara would have to divert a lot of attention to them along with Sasori himself.

Sasori takes this mid diff. The 3rd Kazekage who was said to be the strongest kazekage (stronger than gaara) fell to him as a teenager. Gaara stands no chance against his poison and 3rd kazekage puppet. Gaara wouldve been a new puppet

I hate people who put down Sasori's abilities for being pushed high diff by Chiyo and Sakura. They are literally ignoring the fact that Sakura and Chiyo were the worst people for him to be put up against.
