Kishi's Sloppiness with Orochimaru

I'm still confused about this bit of dialogue...
So Orochimaru's goal is to learn every Jutsu, to discover all the secrets of the world, to become the Ultimate Being...
And then out of nowhere he decides that is the wrong thing to do... Because Kabuto copied him... But let's look at what Kabuto did when he copied Orochimaru.

While Orochimaru perfected Edo Tensei, Kabuto mastered it. He took Orochimaru's research and ran with it. Orochimaru summoned at most four people with Edo Tensei and Kabuto summoned somewhere around ten times as many.

Orochimaru spent who knows how many years searching for the source of and researching Sage Mode. Unfortunately his body at the time was too weak to handle Sage Mode. However with Orochimaru's data and DNA, among other things left behind by Orochimaru, Kabuto managed to become the Sage that Orochimaru dreamed of becoming.

Kabuto is the culmination of all of Orochimaru's research, and most importantly Kabuto gives credit to Orochimaru and says that he couldn't have done it without Orochimaru and his work.

And Orochimaru's response to that is to just give up? It's just sloppy, rushed writing. Shame that one of the coolest and most interesting characters had that happen to him.​

Part 1 up to the Pain arc was just fantastic. Excellent work, awesome characters except for Karin, the art was at its best. Kishi as a whole wrote a great manga.
But now it's so awful... There's no denying that it has gone down hill.

I agree and disagree with you OP. However, the main point isn't that Kabuto managed to "surpass" Orochimaru in many instances of his own game. It is the fact that he himself, a medical ninja who did not have any of the snake affinities, nor did he have Edo-Tensei, went from one fighting style to Orochimaru's. From dreaming on "finding who he was" to "discovering the truth of ninjutsu".

Kabuto might have been a "better" Orochimaru than Orochimaru was himself, but he lost "Kabuto" in the meantime

I also think how Orochimaru just kinda changed it all up in ten seconds is stupid. No complaints here.

I agree that for Kabuto it was the wrong way to go. But Kabuto achieved things that Orochimaru never could until now. Kabuto used all of Orochimaru's information to become stronger and now, suddenly, Orochimaru doesn't care about that? I don't buy it :/

I agree that Orochimaru is Kishi's biggest overall **** up.

He brings up good points, but still, Kabuto is the greatest achievement of Orochimaru and his work... And Orochimaru wants to go in a totally new direction... Orochimaru being interested in and even following Sasuke for the time being is totally fine. But it's what he said to Hiruzen that disturbs me. He should be all over what Kabuto did with his work...

Kishimoto rushed so many things. But I still have a feeling Orochimaru is still evil.

Yeah I was hoping him being good was just a farce and we would at least see him try to attempt absorbing Sasuke one last time.

Orochimaru finally got his arms back and the opportunity to see what he's truly capable of.......but instead Kishi decides nah

This is why I hope there's a part 3 because there are so many things left unanswered and unfinished. Part 3 would at least give the chance to rejuvenate the series and give the fans what they want.

The only thing I don't understand is why Kishi teased Oro fans so much. We got that mini-flashback with Sasuke, Oro's talk with Suigetsu, Hiruzen, Oro talking about now having enough power yet to take over Sasuke, Orochimaru taking over Zetsu and Cursed Seal on Guruguru.

It's obviously way too late for any panel time for Orochimaru, but I think he as a character deserved at least a proper closure.
