As far as we know and have been told; There's no difference in the seals used. And, it's clear that Nagato left the epicenter of the explosion, the cliff side. But he was still caught by the seals wrapping themselves around him. There's still zero evidence to suggest that the Preta Path was used. In the panel above Nagato's eyes we even see the explosion start to go off. We don't see the standard sphere that over comes Nagato nor a rush of chakra like what happened when he absorbed chakra from Killer Bee.
The idea that the explosion is chakra based is unfounded. If it were, Nagato's Preta Path would of completely stopped any damage.
Hidan's body wasn't cut up into pieces by the paper bombs, the strings are what did it. Unless explosions are now known for cutting people up, that is. Hidan's body was shaken by the force of the explosions into the wires that then cut him up. I mean, seriously. Sakura was able to endure a point blank usage of an explosive tag without any real damage.
I maybe able to think that the Zetsu body had notable durability if it wasn't constantly ripped off. Madara did it,

. The fact it can destroy rocks is nothing, when the durability of Sakura is above such. And I don't think I need to spend my time explaining why Kimimaro's own durability trumps Sakura's, at least I hope not.
The summary of this all is; There's no evidence to point to your thoughts on Nagato using the Preta Path to buffer the explosion (Which, if chakra based would be zero damage. If it wasn't, there would be full damage.). Hidan's own injuries were due to the force of his body moving against the wires. Helped supported by Sakura even able to casually take a point black paper tag.
Kimimaro's able to withstand any of Konan's attacks easily, binding him down with paper is folly seeing as he escaped Gaara's bindings and can use the bone forest technique to escape that altogether.
