I want to start the new fate series (which I heard was incredible), so should I start Fate/Zero or Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works first? and why?

The latter only has a couple episodes out right now and is ongoing while fate/zero is completed (I think). Or should I watch some of the older anime of the fate series (but I heard some bad reviews of them).

Thanks!

Have you watched Fate/Stay Night? If not, then Fate/Zero will spoil a lot of stuff from both F/SN and F/SN: UBW.

Nope I haven't seen anything in the series so far. Should I see Fate/Stay Night first then?

First you watch Fate/Zero and then Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works. Also you don't watch any other Fate anime because they are rubbish.

Alright yeah that's what I heard about the other fate anime too. But the user above me said that F/Z spoils F/SN:UBW. Is that true or is it just before it in the timeline?

It's before it in the timeline. Saying that it "spoils" anything is like saying that the first season of any anime spoils the second.

Fate/Zero: Main character is a man
Fate/Stay Night UBW: Main character is a daughter of one of the characters of Fate/'Zero who is older now

Watch the currently airing F/SN first and then watch fate/zero. Fate/zero spoils alot stuff from fsn and thus you won't be amazed by the plot twists in F/SN that which you should've been. Although Fate/zero's sequel it was made keeping in mind that the viewer has already watched F/SN.
But well it's upto you in the end, though Ivd recommend you to watch f/sn unlimited blade works and f/sn Heaven's feel movie(s) coming later before fate/zero.

Fate/Zero: Main character is a man
Fate/Stay Night UBW: Main character is a daughter of one of the characters of Fate/'Zero who is older now

Actually Main character in fate/stay night in every one of the 3 routes is the guy 'Shirou'. The heroine changes with each route and in UBW it happens to be rin and not saber(of Fate) /or sakura(of Heaven's feel). :)

Alright thanks guys! I think i'm going to watch fate/zero first (since I prefer having somewhat of an understanding of whats happening anyway). My assumption is that it is like watching star wars prequels before the original trilogy, which i'm fine with.

Yeah you can say that. Imagine you knowing vader's identity even before you start watching the original trilogy. The surprise factor won't be that great. But if you're fine with spoilers then well go ahead xD
