I don't really like the Test format, its just too long for me. ODI can be fine but T20 is really the most thrilling if you ask me.

It depends when the matches are really good and close it's really more exciting than the other formats, then it is basically 5 action packed days. Like when both teams finish their first innings in 3 days and there is neck and neck competition

But if we know there will be no result or one team completely dominates it becomes an ordeal to watch.

Probably the day night test matches or the test match world cup will help.

That one South Africa vs. India match last year (the one in Durban, iirc, where the match was literally decided in the last 30 minutes) was the best one in recent times.

Test cricket is good and it's what measures mental and physical tolerance of a player though some matches hold no excitement, some are more exciting to watch, if you've watched England tour of Sri Lanka both matches went on to the last over to have a result .

Test Cricket is the purest form.
For it to survive it needs a strong India team as India draws in most of the cricketing revenues, but the BCCI doesn't care much about Test cricket. It also needs more sporting pitches so there's a balance between bat and ball.

i love test cricket.
there were times when i used to watch a test match for a whole day.. each and every ball ..even the analysis part..before and after the match.
i wont deny that T20 cricket or odi or T20 leagues such as IPL, Big bash etc .gives you some extra thrilling experience.
but you know, test cricket has something special about it.
you require strategies , tactics , patience , skills , stamina ..
ohh man its not easy at all.
each player's skill gets polished due to test cricket.
i remember one of sachin Tendulkar's inning against aus.
i think ricky ponting was leading aus.
when sachin came to bat ,ricky set up the field in such a way that it looked like it was almost impossible to play cover's drive and every one of the Aussie bowlers were bowling just outside the off stump . tempting the batsman to play the shot to throw his wicket away. (smart captaincy indeed)
and in this situation , sachin scored 241 runs without even playing a single cover drive (keeping in mind that, it was his favorite shot)
you ought to see that inning.
Test Cricket is the reason players like bradman, viv rechards, alan border, courtney walsh , gavaskar , lara , waugh , ponting , murlidharan , warne ,sachin ,dravid , kallis etc are called THE LEGENDS.
