The city of joy – Kolkata, known historically in English as Calcutta the capital of West Bengal and birth place of Calcutta Football League, which was started in 1898 and one of the oldest football league in Asia. Atlético de Kolkata was established on 7 May 2014 as the first ever Indian Super League team. The teams name is Atlético de Kolkata due to the team being partly owned by Spanish La Liga side, Atlético Madrid. The group which owns the team is known as the Kolkata Games and Sports Pvt. Ltd. which consists of former India cricket star Sourav Ganguly, businessmen Harshavardhan Neotia, Sanjiv Goenka, and Utsav Parekh, as well as Atlético Madrid. Former Bolivia and Valencia manager Antonio López Habas will be the team’s first head coach. The team will play their home matches at the 120,000 capacity Salt Lake Stadium within Kolkata.

Chennai Titans is an Indian Super League football franchise in Chennai was formed when the owners of the Bangalore franchise, Sun Group, opted out of the Inaugural edition of the Indian Super League. The team is owned by Abhishek Bachchan and Vita Dani and Chennai Titans will play their home matches at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium which has a seating capacity of about 40,000.

On 13 April 2014, it was announced that DEN Networks had won the bidding for the Delhi franchise and team has been named as Delhi Dynamos Football Club. Harm van Veldhoven, a Dutch-Belgian will be the manager of team and the team will play their home matches at the 60,000 capacity Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.

Pearl of the Orient – Goa, India’s smallest state by area along the west coast of country known for its beautiful beaches also called as “Queen of the Beaches”. Many Goan soccer players have represented India in international matches. The first Goan to have played for India, representing Goa, is Menino Figuereido who represented India on a goodwill tour of Russia in 1963. Football Club of Goa is owned and operated by Venugopal Dhoot as well as Goan businessmen Dattaraj Salgaocar and Shrinivas Dempo. The team was named as FC Pune City and will be owned and operated by Bollywood actor Salman Khan, Wadhawan Group and Italian football club ACF Fiorentina. Franco Colomba the Italian footballer will be the manager of team and David Trezeguet, one of two World Cup-winners will be the marquee player of FC Pune city. The team will play their home matches at the 22,000 capacity Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi in Pune.

God’s own country – Kerala, is a state in the south-west region of India on the Malabar Coast well known for its love for football. On 13 April 2014, it was announced that Sachin Tendulkar (known as – God of cricket in India) and Prasad V Potluri had won the bidding for the Kochi franchise. On 27 May 2014, the team was officially named “Kerala Blasters”. The team name is based on the popular nickname of team owner Sachin Tendulkar, Master Blaster. David James an English footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for England will be the marquee player-manager of Kerala Blasters FC in Indian Super League. The team will play their home matches at the 75,000 capacity Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi.

Seven Sister States – Northeast, is the eastern-most region of India connected to East India via a narrow corridor between Nepal and Bangladesh. Northeastern football has come a long way since Nagaland-born Talimeren Ao first captained the country post-independence. Football is a craze in north east India, so much so, that youth of the region opting football as full time career which is very rare to see in India in past. On 13 April 2014, it was announced that Bollywood actor John Abraham and Shillong Lajong Football Club had won the bidding for the Guwahati franchise and team was named as NorthEast United Football Club. On July 16, it was announced that Spanish World Cup winner Joan Capdevila had signed a deal to become Northeast United Football Club’s marquee player and Ricki Herbert as manager of team for the Indian Super League. The team will play their home matches at the 35,000 capacity Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati, Assam.
