Why did Kakashi use Mud Wall against Pain?

Just like the title of the thread asks,
why did Kakashi bother to use Mud Wall against Pain when
he was about to use Chidori? And don't say it was to make him unable to move/corner him,
because Pain could just have moved sideways
(not to mention he didn't really need to dodge the attack very much).

Anyway, does he only use the Mud Wall to make him look cooler?

But it was to try and corner him while he wasn't able to use his jutsu during the 5 sec interval. It didn't work but that's what it was for lol

it's kakashis style to surprise attack enemy or corner him and then strike.. i'd say its 90% sure a corner tactic..
