Sorry to say, but your expectations seems to be already shut down from the first question. I'll be one of the few to actually answer your questions.
Most of the characters aren't very useful and they all revolve around the MC to make him look amazing. There really isn't much to say about the characters. The MC is supposed to badass, but it's at the cost of every other characters' development. The MC isn't very creative, but really perceptive and smart which makes him seem OP. The MC makes few mistakes so there isn't much he learns from.
There's not much comedy, and when there is, usually it's those typical 'angry-girl-gets-mad-at-guy' type of comedy.
The story being interesting is up to you, personally the most interesting part of the entire series won't be animated for now as far as I know.

Yeah the show revolves around the MC using a sword. Even in a setting with guns, the MC still uses a sword.
The settings are pretty cool, admittedly. Unique? Dunno. It's fantasy in its most basic sense but the idea that it's in a video game is what makes everyone drool.
