Obito was a midpoint between the incarnations of Ashura/Indra; his powers came from Madara/Hashirama, and Obito's character has many parallels with Naruto/Sasuke. Obito helped shape Naruto and Sasuke in many ways.

There's a reason Kishi drew that picture with Juubito centered, and Hashirama/Naruto on one side and Madara/Sasuke on the other; Obito, like Hagoromo, is a "midpoint" character in the Rikudou legacy.
