WoF is an unwritten rule. Protect your village and comrades. itachi almost destroyed it by attacking and helping to murder 7 jinchuriki in cold blood including the commander of konoha's loyal allies, leaving one of its best fighters in a coma, and leaving in a coma the last uchiha and one of the heroes who saved konoha from shukaku. not to mention allowing akatsuki to roam free, not even attempting to kill pain and unleashing an evil psychopath on the entire world by corrupting sasuke. he betrayed his comrades multiple times and attacked them in cold blood. he ordered kisame to murder kurenai asuma and kakashi without the slightest hesitation. he even mindraped and psychologically tortured naruto and brought him to tears, for no reason. he almost let kisame cut narutos legs off. he failed to tell konoha anything of any use about akatsuki to the point where kabuto's book was more useful for that end.

itachi disregarded his comrades as nothing more than ants in his way when he went off to fight kabuto alone, despite the fact splitting up their forces was a bad idea and made everything ten times harder, contradicting blatantly his own advice of accepting help. if you keep trying to be alone, no one will help you. that lesson itachi never learned. itachi even stated he believed himself to have obtained everything and was invincible. yeah because a believer in WoF is always so arrogant...
he disregarded his sand allies and how they felt when he helped gaara be ruthlessly and senselessly killed. he also didnt react with anything more than an "oh well" after finding out kisame, his friend and partner for 10 years died. he brutally and coldly manipulated sauske into a situation where he shoved chidori through his friend's chest. and considering he expected to be fighting an MS sasuke in the cave...
it could be said not taking out danzo is disregarding lives, since killing a militaristic genocidal dictator before he hurts and brainwashes any more people is a lesser evil. he was so ready to kill his family but not someone as bad or worse than them?

itachi betrayed his clan's wishes to become revolutionaries and painted over the heads of everyone, a giant lie of how uchihas remained senju dogs right to the end just so the last survivor of uchihas could think better of them, never once realising just how much sasuke loved his clan and how no matter what they did or were gonna do, hed still love them. itachi lacks basic understanding of how his bro, and peopel in general, think. they dont take well to being continually manipulated and lied to and tortured. especially a clan prone to extreme emotion.
itachi betrayed his parent's final wishes (for itachi to take care of his brother) right after he killed them. since i dont exactly think psychological abuse, brutal mental torture, manipulation, beating into a coma, breaking bones and the ordering of the murder of innocent people is "taking care" of sasuke. itachi also performed extensive betrayals of hiruzen after his death by extorting and blackmailing the entire village in order to leave sasuke alone and risking the safety of thousands of innocent children and civilians by attempting to brainwash sasuke to protect konoha and only konoha. because, apparently the many thousands of kids in other homes arent worthy of a pacifist's attention..
trying to brainwash and enslave his own "beloved" brother by forcing him to do what itachi wants, and not what he wants, and allowing a special genjutsu to create false experiences inside sasukes head, all without sasukes consent or knowledge, is worse than a simple act of attempted enslavement. its basically a micro-moons eye plan. itachi hates real sasuke so much he wants to erase him and replace him with a "better" one.
furthermore, kakashi said those who want to run away instead of persevere and endure are the real cowards. itachi ran from his problems and tried to put it all on naruto's shoulders because he didnt want to face his own mistakes. only after pestering from sasuke did itachi say anything. he did not want to endure the monster he created and lied to himself thinking sasuke would go back to konoha like everything would somehow be ok after he became a criminal and joined orochimaru. like sasuke would think anything was waiting for him...
itachi also wanted to run from reality the moment he finished killing his clan since even then he decided on dying when sasuke deemed it time for him to die. meaning he didnt even want control over his own destiny or for sasuke to be able to choose his own path either. the KA plan was nothing more than itachi wanting to not face the facts of his brother's darkness, and resort to brainwashing to make it all go away.
