Basically. Kishi could make him one shot sasuke with genjutsu or something and "happy" ending.

Here's a little too dark story about Naruto -

Naruto gets pissed, kill the sage after, and while sasuke is standing there for years brain dead Naruto spends his entire life trying to undo or free him from the genjutsu. Instead he and sasuke die there...Naruto going there everyday.
