Political correctness - attitude or policy of being excessively careful not to offend or upset any group of people in society who are believed to have a disadvantage.

In other words, we cant say any bad things about gays, blacks, women, but they can talk crap about others

You skewed the definition, troll boy.
But say whatever you want to say, just don't expect not to get reciprocated. Don't bxtch about it. Everyone has freedom of speech.

I'm against racism, but disagree with some degrees of political correctness. Political correctness is a thing because people give power to words, which beforehand had none to speak of. People become controlled and restricted by the very words they invented, all because the word was formed out of political strife.

Does racism become born by words, or do words become born by racism? Nobody in this thread should agree with the first.

But that's just words. Onto specific ethnicities, which is the easy part. Absolutely yes, I am against racism. We may be different superficially, but on a molecular level, we are all the same creature with different expressed genotypes. There should be no reason why any particular ethnicity should hold themselves on a higher shelf than another.

Not everyone has freedom of speech, sometimes when u speak the truth, u can either get fired or get killed

For instance, I was talking about the high number of black crimes in chicago and the state of the economy with someone the other day and and some black girl came up and started harassing me. People were instantly on her side and my friend and I had were forced to leave

Freedom of speech means the government cannot imprison you or execute you for speaking your mind. This doesn't mean commonpeople have to agree with or tolerate what you say.

Im not talking about the government, im talking about society, I can get fired for speaking the truth and thats the problem. The world will be better if we are allowed to say whats in our hearts and then understanding each other

So basically you are saying you got punked out. Next time stand your ground and defend your self if you really stand by your opinion.

You can't necessarily define it as "Freedom of Speech" then, since private corporations do not contribute to constitutional amendments.

I cant do that. The cost of standing my ground does not outweigh the benefit. Getting harassed and being ostracized from society is not greater than speaking ur mind. To me, sometimes the truth just hurts and has to be buried

Ill give u an example. Let says im bigoted towards a certain race or what not. And im not hurting the company at all. Im not a racist and im not discriminating. If one of my coworkers found out and tells the boss, I get fired so why should that play a major factor in deciding who gets the firing squad

If you say it doesn't out weigh the benefit, than what does that say about your opinion?

Political Correctness is heedless when it gets in the way of positive change. Such as news outlets refraining from using racial terms, when the crime was of a racial bias.

You can get fired for saying something the business owner - or those so empowered by the business owner(s) - does not like, true.

And how is this a problem?

It's his business. He can have employees as he chooses to. He doesn't need a rhyme or reason to who he hires and fires.

Would you have someone come in and tell you that you can't fire a waitress who tells the customers exactly what she thinks and drives away business?

Business is not politically correct. Business is business.

I am not going to get a job as a waitress if I apply at hooters. Not without a lot of surgery and compromising my dignity as a male.

I am not going to demand a winery provide, for me, a cupcake as a customer. Nor am I going to force a Jewish Rabbi to perform a Christian marriage ceremony in a mosque while reading from the satanic bible.

If the gay bartender is freaking out the customers and causing them to go elsewhere - he's got to find something else to do, quite possibly somewhere else. The business owner gets to decide whether or not he wants to try and change his clientele to fit his employees or whether he wants to hire employees who fit his clientele.

It's that simple. You can't force social paradigms on business. If people want gay bartenders, they'll find places with gay bartenders. If people want men pretending to be women to serve them food - they'll find a restaurant that does that. If people -don't- want those things, they will go elsewhere if a business chooses to 'change with the times.'

If an employer fires everyone who disagrees with him - then he's going to have trouble keeping a business together. If an employer doesn't ever fire anyone no matter what the infraction - then he is going to have trouble keeping a business together. You can't force good business ethics on business, either - but the market is pretty good about punishing poor business leadership/management all on its own.

Well our prime minister just condamned social liberalism and political correctness. Some people judge him for being rather fascist, but this government is still better than socialdemocrats. However, the firm lines between certain political ideologies are disappearing.
