Is Kakashi a Bad Teacher?

I love Kakashi as a character don't get me wrong but for story purposes was he a bad teacher? I mean he failed to prevent Sasuke from becoming evil and he allowed Naruto to lose control of the Nine tails on numerous occasions. Not to mention that he plays favorites with his students (in Part 1 he ignored Naruto's request to train him to train Sasuke because he said he reminded Kakashi of himself and in Part 2 he helps Naruto learn Rasenahuriken but completely ignores Sakura with training). Sakura also doesn't get any training from Kakashi really for the entire series and has to learn from Tsunade. Again I love Kakashi but maybe he could have shaped up as a sensei.

He was done teaching them at the end of part 3. Thats why they upgraded to the Sanin for special training. He isnt a bad teacher. All of team 7 is still awake while the rest of the world slumbers.

We don't count Sakura as a ninja, number one. Number two, he trained Sasuke because he figured Gaara would kill him if he didn't, also, not only did he leave Naruto in the hands of Ebisu, because he trained Sasuke, Naruto met Jiraiya.

He was given charge of 3 genin
An average kunochi: Sakura
A genius from a powerful clan with a power KKG: Sasuke
A talentless ninja from a powerful clan, who was also host to a tailed beast.


Kakashi dedicated most of his energy to instructing Sasuke. Since by his own (Kakashi) admission, Sasuke was like him.

As for Sakura and Naruto he did the mandatory minimum as a jonin leader. At least he had the for thought to have Ebisu (a special jonin who specializes in training ninja) to train Naruto. Sakura was left to twist in the wind with no direction.



Compare what Kakashi did to what Asuma, Guy and presumably Kurenai did for their students. They gave there weakest students the most attention but didn't leave their other students out. Guy focused on Lee ; understandably since Lee has no nin or genjustu ability. Kurenai focused (presumably) on Hinata; meeting with her father and noting Hinata's struggle and growth during the chunin exam. Asuma focused on Shikamaru because he discovered Shika was a genius who just wasn't applying himself to his fullest potential.

Looking at Choji, Ino, Kiba and Shino during the war, we can assume that Kurenai, Guy and Asuma raised splendid ninja. All of them have prodigious skills and have been on the front lines fighting. Team 8, Team 10 and Team Guy all easily rank at jonin level.




With Team 7 though, the growth and progress the ninja made was largely absent Kakashi's instruction. Naruto is the ninja he is today thanks to Jiraiya, the Toad Sages, Killer Bee and Kurama. All Kakashi did was help him unlock the wind element. Naruto still had to learn how to use it himself.

Sasuke is a combination of Orochimaru's teachings and the Uchiha KKG abilities. Again, Kakashi can only be credited with teaching Sasuke the lightning ability and teaching him how to use his sharigan. Sasuke taught himself the chidori current, Kirin. He learned genjutsu, iaijutsu, and various ninjutu from Oro. And was further amped by the MS/EMS and Rinnegan jutsus unlocked to him.

Sakura is a student or Tsunade through and through. Kakashi never taught her anything. The ninja Sakura is now is thanks wholly to Tsunade's instruction.

They trained with other teachers, which was actually the smarter move, considering how those mentors strengthened the best skills that team 7 had. Kakashi could not do such a thing, because he wasn't capable of doing so, especially for Naruto and Sakura. He isn't a bad teacher. He just knew who could better strengthen his team.

Problem is that it was not Kakashi's plan for his students to study with the 3 Sannin. Sasuke left the village out of his own selfish desire. Naruto left with Jiraiya to get the power and skills necessary to compete with Sasuke. Sakura just opted to be study with Tsunade so she wouldn't be left behind by Sasuke and Naruto.

kakashi had to train sasuke as sasuke shared a lot with kakashi( e.g. lighting style and sharingan, kakashi was the only one besides sasuke with a sharingan at the time), jiraya was taking care of naruto and tsunade was taking care of sakura, as for sasuke he made his own choices kakashi warned him as much as he could but sasuke wouldnt listen
