It's not that Hiruzen is weak. It's quite the opposite. People compare him to gods like Juubito, Madara, Naruto, Sasuke, Hashirama....etc. Hiruzen wasn't some immortal god ninja. He was someone who was well versed in ninjutsu and had a vast knowledge on everything around him. He was never surprised in battle or in person. He was a perfect shinobi in a sense. Maybe not in sheer power, but in strength. If you powered down and god-level shinobi to Hiruzen's level, there's probably just about no one that could take him.

I think that's what the hype implies, guys. Don't be disappointed because he couldn't take on god-level shinobi. Respect his abilities as a shinobi and a Kage.

I still think his fight with orochimaru was one of the best in naruto. Sure it is a little more tame than the current ones, but that is really just because it was early in the manga when Kishi was more tame in his writing. People on the base make jokes about prime hiruzen being the strongest to exist and I know that is not true, but cmon, he had to be very powerful to even become hokage and he has a lot of hype in the manga. He is one of the strongest ninja's i think and I think his style of fighting is way cooler than what is currently being done. Much more true to the way of shinobi than these DBZ fights.

I like Hiruzen and I do believe he was one of the strongest before all of these powerups happened. Oro and Kabuto were many things but stupid is not one of them and they brought back Hashi and Tobi to kill Hiruzen. They knew it would take 2 powerful shinobi to defeat him. Oro was always arrogant and even he was not willing to take Hiruzen on. It says a lot that Oro did not think that he and Kabuto could beat Hiruzen.

He was way past his prime when that happened and he was still able to seal them and cause Oro to lose his arms before he died. Oro believed the Hiruzen hype so much that he tried to disadvantage him by having him fight in a barrier. Having been one of the Sannin who was trained by Hiruzen, I think Oro would have been in a position to know. Hiruzen made a lot of mistakes as Hokage but I think as just a ninja he was one of the best.

All of Konohagakure could describe Sakura as the strongest shinobi in Leaf history, this would not make it true. She could be praised or revered as the strongest shinobi in leaf history, also would not make it true.
