I think that he was more surprised at the fact that he just gave him that eye a day ago (I'm guessing that's how long the fight with Kaguya lasted.) and that he's able to already pull off a tech like that. There was no doubts that over time, Sasuke would become master of Rin'negan and also genjutsu (kind of in his blood). In a days time though? No one expected that. He was also slightly surprised that Sasuke didn't change his final solution after he gained all the answers he needed.
