Explain to me please - why the hell are 'good' characters fight against ET? An ideal way of life for mentally damaged, angst ridden Naruto/Sasuke. Just the knowledge that 'aw its not real tho' makes them fight? Because they would turn into Zetsu? They've only just learnt this! There could be a 'you need to earn your own happiness" moral, but as it is there is nothing. And maybe their bodies would dehydrate in days and then everyone would die? It never got addressed?
I can’t explain it because it was never discussed in the manga beyond “wahhh it’s fake though!!!” Seriously Kishi didn’t even try.
The issue of people being turned into Zetsus was a very, very last-minute development. Even the idea of people being bound and hooked up to the tree was quite recent. Barring Madara and possibly Obito, nobody knew that people would be more or less placed under comas and bound to the shinju (I don’t think anyone knew about the Zetsu crap because it was made up 6 weeks ago). As far as others knew? They could just be going about their regular life, but daydreaming the entire time. They could have their entire lives transformed. They could go to sleep forever and their new dream lives would be vivid enough to live. Madara could genuinely alter reality and mold it to their dreams so it would be real.
Mugen Tsukuyomi was never properly explained and for all people knew, Madara could have really made their dreams become reality. And yet, not a single person outside of Obito supported him. That’s…complete bullshit. Realistically, a decent percentage of the human race would have been intrigued by that.
This was always one of the biggest problems with the war as a whole. Very, very few people even knew what they were fighting for. Only the villains had any clue what they were even planning. The Gokage had…a few sentences of knowledge on MT, and Obito spouted some shit that the army heard long after the war had already started, but overall, none of the good guys actually even knew what the villains wanted. It was very poorly handled. The good guys should have known what they were dealing with. They should have asked questions. They should have discussed things. There should have been some rifts formed in the Alliance over it. Some people should have sided with the villains.
It’s really kind of disconcerting that the entire world united against a couple of guys without a single person even knowing why. That’s…pretty weak writing, especially considering how alluring Madara’s offer was.
