Doctors where i preside suggest every 6 months due to decay and bacteria buildup.

Personally, i dont buy a new one until my bristles are ruined or there is obvious damage to my toothbrush. Regardless, i buy a new toothbrush yearly.

Im curious , what factors do others take into account when buying a new toothbrush?

Im a dentist and the 6 months interval is the ideal timing though the most realistic one is whenever your brush has its "bristles" (sorry im not english native speaker) weary, like you can see the toothbrush no longer will have the same effect cleaning cause they aren't stiff anymore

the idea behind is the efficiency in cleaning and reaching your gums too along with an appropriate way of brushing

Till the time it starts hurting my gums ._.
Brushing well involves brushing gently with the right moves not in a brute way :p u should also do a yearly professional cleaning in your dentist to remove the plaque so your gums wont be in constant inflamation bleeding process

You dentists just want to make money! In australia, going to a dentist is bloody expensive unless you have private health insurance. Even then the waiting lines go for months :|
