Shanks and crew stole it from an enemy.
And they sometimes appear on the nearest plant.
So what if a DF user like died on the straw hat's ship would that make one of nami's oranges turn into a df...
does it just happen randomly to the nearest plant around...

Can I buy one from someone?!

I don't think it really said, but there is an encyclopedia on it, which means it does maintain the same fruit type it was before, because if it changes fruit every time then there wouldn't be an encyclopedia. So I say just a random fruit, but the same type it was before

Most of Shanks group members doesn't like DF's. I think he would sell it for a decent price. The DF turns into the same kinda fruit but the fruit kinda changes a little bit.

Yeah you could buy one on ebay for like 50 bucks

I don't think Pirates have Ebay. They have ArgBay though. Its just a real shady pirate town that will sell you anything for the right price then kill you and rob you and sell it to the next guy.
