How do you feel about Homeless Veterans ?

so I just came back from Walmart with my friend because he wanted me to go with him to get some shit, and we came across a homeless man. I usually think in my head " this guy is just another drug addict who just wants money for another hit. " or " its not my problem" but this guy in particular caught my attention and I just felt wrong walking past him. So we chilled for a bit andthen my friend was like " let's go bruh". before I left , I gave him a pack of pop tarts and a dollar.

How do you feel about those who put their life on the line for our country, now living in the streets. Like does the gov not care about Soldiers if they aren't in war anymore?

they should get a job even if its at a mcdicks, having you were in the army on a resume is guaranteed to get you a job, its better then them wasting the rest of their lives on a park bench

When I head to Chicago I do the same if it's outside the store. I give all homeless people $1 or $5 depending on what I have. It hurts knowing people who protect their countries are homeless.

Yep, the government is made up of a bunch of *******s. But, why doesn't the soldier get a job, unless he suffers PSTD, or some other mental issue (most likely the case), I can't understand.

I see your point, but I disagree with war period, so I don't think they are Heros, murder is murder.

However, I am grateful and realize they tried to defeat a sin with a sin, and would still help one out.

Many people end up homeless through no fault of there own, some drug addicts and alcoholics got that way through trauma, abuse and depression. Some are runaways trying to escape abuse, some are people who have lost everything or victims of poverty, nothing is black and white, everytime someone says "its not my problem" someone suffers. *gets down off of soap box* stubs toe* swears*

Ok to answer you question, it is deplorable, someone who protects there county should be cared for by the government, it is a disgrace.

I never really liked the thought of it.
But at points I just don't care for it, but that's only due to my experience with family members engaged in the army.
Regardless it's a pitiful thing to see.

Not true in the slightest. I've known a lot of guys who got out and have had a lot of trouble getting employed. A shitty economy is shitty no matter how good you look on a resume some times.

Typically the biggest issue that leads to veterans being homeless is drinking and not being prepared for life after the military. In the army tobacco and alcohol are your only vices so people with addictive personalities become pretty dependent on it. Not to mention the fact that its about the most stressful job out there, the culture, the stress it puts on your family, and yes the increasing number of soldiers with mental disorders just serve to exacerbate the problem. Imagine having PTSD. You self medicate with alcohol because if you go to behavioral health then your career is wrecked. Mostly binge drinking on weekends and copping a buzz every week night. You live that way for 20+ years. Then all of the sudden you're out. No 0600 PT formation to discourage you from just getting drunk every night and walking into work with a hangover and having poor performance. You retire and you lose your housing allowance and your pension is actually a pay cut. You're divorced twice and have court ordered child support and since wife two was with you for long enough she gets part of your pension. So you have to get another job. Problem is you don't have a degree. You've never needed one. You're a medic? Good luck getting a job at a hospital with that GED. You're an infantryman or an MP? A lot of police agencies have a maximum age requirement for the academy. Then there's the general disposition people in the military typically acquire. Which is the complete not give a **** attitude. In a civilian work environment its not really acceptable to talk to your boss about how you tried to bang some chick in a wheel chair at the bar the night before. Also "Listen up ******s" is typically not an acceptable way to let someone know its time for a business conference.

So lets do the math.
Military pension divided between house, Ex-wife, and kids. Plus crappy paying job. Plus self medicating with booze. Minus crappy paying job. Equals homeless veteran.

Such things reflect a degenerated society.
Soldiers many of them come from poor families for a job.They loose some part of their body or their families get ruined while they are away or they never get pensions.Their own people call them murderers when they come back. It is not only soldiers I have seen police officers die and nobody gives a single shit,the matter comes in news then it fades away,their families comes to street.It makes anyone think why should they are do it,what purpose? It then leads to corruption.
