While this theory/spoiler is short, open-minded analysis will reveal that it is not far-fetched. So, let throw the details, and let all the non-trollish poster make their guesses:

I. IT has two steps ...
Yeah, IT is performed in two steps and each one of the step utilized specific power.
First, the Genjutsu (Tuskyomi) is performed using one half of the power of the Narutoverse. This power is the Ultimate power of the Sharingan, or of Indra.
As you can see, this is the power of the Sharingan, and it confirmed what hagoromo said - His mother had the Sharingan power.
Second, after the Ultimate power of the Sharingan, It uses the ultimate power of the body or of Ashura to apply the second part of the IT. This power is the ultimate power of Mokuton, which we can see is a worldwide Mokuton Jutsu.
As you can see above, the second part of IT is performed using a mokuton Jutsus by controlling the Shinju. Madara called it ShinjuKai Koutan ( Birth of the Sea of Trees). However, this is a Shinju version of Hashirama's Jutsu name Jukai Koutan. In the third spoiler above, you can see hashirama referring to the Jutsus by his own name.
II. Naruto's seal + Sasuke's seal to stop IT
So, Hagoromo explained that Naruto having all the chakra of the tailed beast, and Sasuke having Rinnegan should be able to dispel IT. However, fact is that to dispel IT, one need to stop Shinjukai Koutan and the Tsukyomi. So, this solves my suspicion about how Kishi is keeping the best of Naruto for the last. If hagoromo had said that Naruto has the Mokuton, the whole base would be mad right now, and this is why the Ashura's part is kept secret. In fact, let make it complete - that is the last part of the IT process that I did not give:
Thus, Naruto possess 2/3 of what is required to cast IT, which are Bijus juice and Ashura's mokuton. Sasuke possess the Genjutsus part. In fact, Sasuke will have to be carried to the moon by Naruto unless he has all Rinnegan power and can fly like Nagato.
Well, this is my thoughts. What are yours?

One thing I forgot to mention is that it seems Hagoromo does not know everything about his mother. While hagoromo spoke of how to stop IT, his language suggests that he was not the one to stop it, or that his mother's IT did not occur on his time. The reason is that hagoromo said he researched the IT and he is sure that they can stop it with his solution. However, it did not confirm that he did it before. So the question is:
Note: I know distinct argument are welcome. However, I want everyone to put on my account that Naruto have Mokuton. Hashirama's chakra turning Zetsu into trees is the evidence that Naruto and hashirama have the same chakra. This is not even a debate because both of them are Ashura's transmigrant.

This being said, IT is a combination of Mokuton Jutsu and Tsukyomi - that is the two side of the Narutoverse.

In order for IT to be casted, the power of Ashura and Indra is not sufficient. You also need the power of all the Bijus - that is the Juubi's.
