That's not a physical method of sensing. His and Muu's hiding techniques are not that easy to bypass.

OT: Trollkage may take. Hiruzen as Draegod stated is a Tracker, not a Sensor. Also, you need physical sensing methods (such as how Gaara had his Sand Sensing sense, and engulf the clams location) to defeat Trollkages Genjutsu.

Yes it is. The illusion would have no scent because its not real and Hiruzen would just locate the real clam and kill it.

No its not. 'Contact sensing' implies physical contact, touch. If you smell something you're not touching it, you're just smelling it.

The Alliance had a myriad of different shinobi and resources availuable. The Inuzuka were seen fighting. Am i supposed to believe they only had traditional sensors among that division?
Only physical methods were shown to work against him and Muu. I don't see any point in delving in my imagination and consider other possibilities when this seems the most likely to me.

actually, this is the one ''illusion'' that doesn't affect the senses. because this illusion isn't a genjutsu, its a physical mirage.
it doesn't take control of the victims chakra network & senses, in other words.

the reason sensing wont work is because of the AoE of the illusion conflicting w/ sensory perception as well as troll constantly changing his location as he attacks targets
