For someone who waited until Orochi was at kitten level to kill,

I am having my doubts as to why he would do that now.

Maybe because he knows they need him for IT.

There is no indication that they need suckske to end IT. All that has been said so far is that suckske and Naruto can end it without the additional power of the bijuus. That does not mean that is the only way.

Sasuke being smug doesn't mean he knows he'll win, it means he thinks he'll win simply because of what his surname happens to be. He was this smug against Gaara (P1), Ei, Madara, Bee, etc. Itachi(on all occasions). And all of them have exp putting him back in diapers.
