Sakura and Kakashi have always been close. She probably reminds him a lot of Rin, so he is extra protective of her, like when she nearly died by the same attack he used to kill Rin. He was horrified when Sasuke almost repeated history. She has always been there for him, protecting him, healing him and they seemed to have formed a bond and friendship that passes that of a teacher and student. Not a romantic couple, but definitely good friends with high respect for each other. I had a similar relationship with a teacher at my school when I was younger.
